Some people mention that it would be a "monumental effort"..... as long as its only he and she which is the vast majority of what people ask for(they them would be nice for some i imagine, but noone kids themself about that) it would LITTERALY BE A FUCKING BOOLEAN VALUE!!! A FUCKING TOGGLE AT CREATION
We already have every piece of dialouge with a he and she version, its litteraly a single flag on the character they would need to reference to see what cutscene variation they should play.... its not hard

It's never that easy. While fairly easy to implement in English, you have to consider all the other languages supported as well. It's a whole other ball game in the other languages where the whole language is tied to gender.

This. I'm not sure people realize that the game is played in other languages than just English.

Also, changing boolean value to something that doesn't exist means we have to make a reference where it does. That can be done semi-quickly, but then we have to review it works properly. And now we're back to the issue that it would take a lot of time because while this is being reviewed, no other content is being approved or monitored. So no. I don't want old content to be more pander-y. I don't care if that changes moving forward, but I want new content. We barely have any to begin with and I don't want already-mismanaged efforts squandered on nonsense.

If being practical makes me a bigot, then insult away.

I don't like how my character responds to a lot of the prompts in the game. Instead I just imagine something else was said that better fits the character I believe my character is... I cant imagine them being as sassy or sarcastic in every response as I want to be so I don't blame the development for not including it.

Person above makes a decent point... the game is 3rd person not first... sort of. More of watching or reading someone else's story, by that line of thought you should not force your gender identity on her/him.
Under that same reasoning though... you could say they excluded characters that would have been assigned male and identifies as she/her... They are missing out on gender diversity, but... they do have some NPC's that are diverse.

Who's to say the your character who is male/female isn't post/mid transition?

I am a lalafell.
I also identify as gender apathetic. If people are polite I do not care what they call me, and I know that may sound like a cop-out.... But its not. I play both male and female characters and both ways people address me as he/she are fine. I also work tech support. I take calls all day or make calls, when people complete surveys or pass the phone to some one else about 70% of the time they will identify me as She/Her the reset of the time as he/him. The only time I have any problem is when they clearly say it in a demeaning way.

I don't like how my character, after kicking Gaius's butt in the Praetorium, lets him walk over to the Ultima Weapon and start it up. What are we, stupid?!

Well, at least we don't do that anymore.

But we still stand around listening to Gaius, Nero and the woman in white armor who murdered our friends in cold blood monologuing, blah blah blah, when we ought to be beating the beetle juice out of them. I mean politeness is a virtue, but that's just ridiculous.

And then there's the fetch-this deliver-that quests. Seriously, I save the freaking world, and suddenly I'm everyone's mail carrier and DoorDash.

Well enough. Let the world save itself next time, I'm going back to the First to be a bounty hunter.

Watching Yotsuyu's brother kick the absolutely kupo out of her while she's laying helpless on the floor and all we do is stand there and look angry about it all the while Asahi monologues. It's insanely frustrating how much terrible stuff we just let happen. It feels like our characters have no real agency in these situations and it's terrible writing.

I don't claim to know how it works, but it shouldn't be too difficult. If it's simple they could just add those pronouns as extra options that could fill in places where <gender> is mentioned in dialogue, then create a selection for it somewhere. That said I'm sure the more conservative parts of the community would be upset, as shown by the brilliant first comment in this thread and all the people that liked it (because apparently they don't have anything better to do with themselves than laugh at strangers on the internet). I wouldn't get your hopes up about it, but you never know.

Lots of people who don't know how it works giving instructions and once again making snide remarks about a demographic they don't like as if it makes them any better. Page before this one. I posted why it's not as simple as a boolean swap. And next time keep in mind it's bad manners to pipe up on practical matters even you acknowledge ignorance in.
