Seriously though, everybody is overlooking this single one issue that went unaddressed for years, and remained since the release of 2.0! It's so glaring I have no idea how people don't talk about it.
It's literally the first thing you see when opening up FFXIV for at least 25k players around the world. Look at this.



Do you see what I mean? Indeed. The background picture of the Steam interface for Final Fantasy XIV depicts a black mage donning AF gear from the 1.0 release of the game. This is satanic. You're telling me the background of one of the greatest games of all time featuring legendary artists of all mediums spanning multiple generations can't do better than a CG render of the worst job in the game on a blue foggy background featuring Ul'dah (?) the desert oasis known for it's hot climate and light outfits? This is so bizarre. This game is so much more than wizard with a stick and such imagery must be the reason all ~8 billions people on this planet don't play it.



[Since this is the internet I do wanna precise that this is a tongue and cheek post and I don't think it's that bad, although a new BG would be nice. Thankfully, Steam allows for custom BG, box art and logos. I don't think dark mage is bad nor do I think any classes are lame. I love this game and the devs got my unwavering support.]

I honestly don't know what advantage there is to using Steam to play FFXIV.
From what I read here, it's just another source of potential annoyances.
