As long as you use those mentioned programmes privately and didn't post on social media and stream while using them, you're safe from getting ban, right?

No one is safe. YoshiP is the Mrs. Kim of FFXIV.
j/k, that's basically the gist of it, yes. Certain programs do interact with data in such a way that it can be detected, apparently, but most client-side add-ons or mods are generally undetectable without being flaunted.
they need proof you are doing it. without accessing your computer files. So pretty safe yeah.
Curious to see what happens with all the bards. Would suck to have a streamer walk by the songbirds or some other group and they all get banned. That is of course assuming it is not 6 different people playing on actual keyboards linked to the hotkeys.
Or maybe 1 guy with 6 keyboards.
It's always going to be against ToS, people screaming bloody murder isn't going to change anything. Their turf, their rules.
But from what I know, they're willing to turn a blind eye if you shush about it, just remember the risk is still there, always.
best option, if you are worried about a ban.. DONT USE THEM.
there is zero guarantee, it is against the rules, as states in many places... and you posted interest in a public forum so....
personally, I would avoid them, but thats just me. I tend to enjoy my account and the time and effort I put into it
Thank you for all answer.
Also point out we use the word BAN incorrectly.
You are most likely going to get a suspension the first time it happens. After that maybe longer suspensions. And then eventually and actual BAN/account deletion.
Could be a good thing honestly. Cut ties with this MMO and move on to greener pastures.
While there's a conversation to be had about the features some addons offer, the rules are the same they've been for years yet many are acting like this is new.
Most people seem upset that the Vanilla UI is lacking in functionality, but Yoshi's announcement specifically stated that they're already looking into the most popular UI mods to implement many of those functions into the game.
It's also worth mentioning that you can type #GPOSER on Twitter right now and find a trillion posts using GShade and CMTools/Anamnesis, and they haven't all been mass banned. Go to Limsa on literally any server and you'll probably find 9 bards all probably using the Midi player, and they probably also fine. SE knows most addons are perfectly harmless, and most people are smart enough to not talk about the addons they're actually using.
Also, unless you were there, probably very few people remember just how BAD the Vanilla UI actually was during the PS3 days and just take for granted all the features we have right now. I have no reason to believe they won't continue to improve it and implement stuff only found in mods right now.
Though I agree they could have handled some of the higher profile bans with more grace, I believe some people are blowing this a little too much out of proportion..

I think there is also a valid conversation to be had about some add-ons being allowed, such as the cosmetic ones that have no impact whatsoever on another person's game. People don't just want "increased functionality" though that is certainly nice but also being able to customize your own experience. Changing the way your HUD looks, having chat bubbles pop up in /say chat, etc. Those sorts of add ons are harmless, its silly to ban someone for that just as it is to ban people for using Gshade or the midi music player. While there's a conversation to be had about the features some addons offer, the rules are the same they've been for years yet many are acting like this is new.
