Oh it was definitely bad at high pings. You'd have to do stuff like Fuma instead of Raiton just so you don't clip. But the job did feel much faster, imo.
Except the change fits neither agenda.Trick was the same for years but there were also years worth of threads asking for ninja to do more damage and complaining their damage was lower due to trick attack.
indifferent if it changes or stays the same since I just cap ninja at leave it each expansion. But I think all that whining over dps is what caused the change tbh. Or at least partly is why.
The problem people had with Trick Attack was its rDPS, causing NIN to feel week in solo or light-party content if balanced for 8-man content. Mug retains that rDPS, so that problem remains.
Those pissed about losing Trick Attack were most interested in its skill expression and its benefits to others' gameplay by forming a unique(ly frequent) raid buff window. Mug does not retain that unique(ly frequent) raid buff window, so now we've got a new problem atop the old.
Yes, I recall reading about that. Because Fuma benefited from the Slashing debuff, the loss wasn't nearly as great as it would be now, I believe? Well, that and Raijus exist.

I did some math in another thread. The total proportion of NIN's rDPS which is contributed by party buffs has gone from ~8% (with Trick Attack) to ~7% (with Mug). This is a difference of about ~200 rDPS total. Obviously there's a lot variance on either side, because feeding into buffs is very party-dependent, but if the goal was to make Ninja less rDPS dependent, they've only done so by a very small margin. Compare to Monk's Brotherhood, which just barely scratches 6% contribution at the highest level.
The problem is that they made Ninja buff two-minutes (where most of your damage is coming from) even harder, which means the +5s~ relative to Trick lining up with other raid buffs means even though you're missing the second half of your party buff (the half that comes up at odd-minute intervals instead of just even) your overall damage contribution from Mug is still extremely high.
They've taken skill expression from every other class, and changed a core aspect of Ninja for little to no perceivable gain. They should revert the changes in 6.2, because this ain't it.
