Oh now the person who's scared of high end content is gonna preach to us about lack of skill.

This really is just some next level cope in the end, isn't it? You know you're not on the same skill level as raiders, but you want to pretend you're better than them because you don't parse.

I've never really understood why people who game on PC feel the need to modify those games so much. I'd rather experience the game the way it was intended. However, in FFXIV's case, I wouldn't mind if the devs looked into some of the more popular addons and QoL stuff and attempt to add their own versions of them into the game. (Which seems like they'll be doing eventually, anyway.)

I've only ever dabbled here and there with raiding but it doesn't particularly suit my tastes. (Too many toxic and/or tryhard people. Made the whole experience completely unfun.) Of course, I'm fully against adding parsers into the game because it'll only encourage toxicity. I get that people will continue to use them anyway, but SE taking a firm stance against their usage is enough for me. Perhaps someday I'll get into raiding again (Hopefully with some irl friends) but for now, I think I'm good. :P

As someone who plays on PC and never felt the need to install add-ons this whole hysteria is pretty hilarious.

as a gamer it is hard for me to imagine playing a game and minding my own business
i must know you are playing the game unadultered as to not invalidate my experience and not pose a perceived risk to my casual play

I love how everyone who thinks parcers are just going to encourage toxicity also doesn't raid themselves.

It would be nice if SE actually took the QoL options of plugins and added them to the game for everyone.

Actually shocked it took this long for action to be taken against streamers, though.

Goodness, you didn't have to go for the neck like that.

I mean, I'm glad you did, but you didn't have to.

Bingo. This sudden crackdown isn't something Square just suddenly decided to do on their own. It's happening in response to mass-reports being made by a braying mob, a mob that is motivated far more by a pathological hatred of streamers than by any genuine desire for "law and order." If the streamers weren't using add-ons, the mob would just look for another excuse to mass-report them, or outright make shit up.

Square's policy regarding add-ons has to change. It might have been sufficient ten years ago, when nobody was playing 1.0 and streaming wasn't as big a deal as it is today. But FF14 is currently the world's most popular subscription MMO, and it has an active streamer community. "Fight Club rules" won't cut it anymore. As we've seen with this 5ch brigading, it's too easy to weaponize as a form of harassment. Especially when people in the GCBTW are defending brigading because "hurr durr they brokeded teh rulez in public."

It's fitting you mentioned "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," because that policy was dropped by the US military for the same reason Square's existing add-on policy doesn't work: it creates a functional double standard. Technically, add-ons are always against ToS, but Square can't enforce the rule against non-streamers (unless a player is stupid enough to cite DPS numbers in chat when harassing someone else), so in practice, the rule only really applies to streamers.

This double standard makes no sense. It's all the more hypocritical when people defending the brigading and the bannings are openly advocating non-enforcement of the rules against people breaking the rules in private. If they genuinely cared about the rule-breaking (spoiler alert: they don't), they'd be looking for enforcement of the rules irrespective of whether the rule-breaking happens in public or in private. If using mods is so terribad that people deserve to be banned for it, why ban only those who do so on-stream?

Why is the stance SE takes on toxicity and harassment in general not enough though? I mean, when you think about it lets talk about what Yoshi-P said about in game harassment and stalking, being unable to remove yourself from someone else's friends list so they can see where you are, being unable to prevent some people from entering your house. He said he doesnt want to add such features because it might "hurt someone'es feelings." That is more important than someone being harassed and stalked in the game? This is just an example of where the devs AND YoshiP are just wrong. Think about how problematic that is compared to the supposed "toxicity" from players who use parsers (which I never see because apparently its ok to harass and stalk people but not ok to tell someone they are doing something wrong.)

IIRC, the OP had been called out already several times from other past threads in similar fashion with cold, hard facts. This recent on-going hot topic is certainly a good timing for them to join in the bandwagon.

Frankly speaking, I’ve never seen a ‘lost cause’ this bad.
