Console Players don't need Addons

There's actually an example of a QoL Mod that was added recently. You know how now things like orchestration rolls and minions show if you have them already or not in the tooltip? That was a mod for a couple years before it was an official feature. And the whole time the mod existed, SE was saying it was an impossible thing for the game to add. Before they added it anyway.

So safe to say I'm not confident about their ability to incorporate QoL changes in a timely manner.

And people will praise the devs for implementing the change yet its been available for years thanks to add-ons. And they DO deserve praise for taking great ideas from the community and implementing it into the core experience of the game. But they don't deserve praise for punishing players who took advantage of those features before their official implementation.

IIRC, the OP had been called out already several times from other past threads in similar fashion with cold, hard facts. This recent on-going hot topic is certainly a good timing for them to join in the bandwagon.

There are only two semi-"required" addons:

• A parser, by which to figure out your rotation before going into content (and, if it doesn't lag you too much, during content that you'll run often under similar contexts, so you can figure stuff out via comparison),
• DBM/BWs, so that subtler visual-only cues can be noticed via further auditory cues even if you, say, have to look away at party HP bars as said cue appears (the actual exact timer scripts haven't actually worked for some time now; WoW bosses are more randomized and the timing data isn't given ahead of time to the game client, unlike in XIV).

Personally, I rarely ran DBM unless a fight had notoriously subtle or easily obscured cues, for which I might toggle it on; it otherwise felt excessive to the point of being annoying. When playing on my potato of a laptop, similarly, I'd just ask a friend for the numbers after a given M+ run as not to lose almost a twelfth of my frame rate to said parser. There, my only addon was bartender, such that I could put my hotbars where I wanted them.

Neither was required even when pushing above the reward cap for M+ or in doing Heroic Raids.



That's not to say that there isn't a ton of good you can do with addons. On my desktop, I ran several, and had put in significant work into making my UI take up minimal space while still providing all the information I could want.

But it's not as if I couldn't swap back to the default UI as necessary (and given that I was too lazy to consistently copy my addons over to my laptop, that was frequently the case). They weren't required, even for rather high-end content; they just made the game look and feel far better.

Why is the stance SE takes on toxicity and harassment in general not enough though? I mean, when you think about it lets talk about what Yoshi-P said about in game harassment and stalking, being unable to remove yourself from someone else's friends list so they can see where you are, being unable to prevent some people from entering your house. He said he doesnt want to add such features because it might "hurt someone'es feelings." That is more important than someone being harassed and stalked in the game? This is just an example of where the devs AND YoshiP are just wrong. Think about how problematic that is compared to the supposed "toxicity" from players who use parsers (which I never see because apparently its ok to harass and stalk people but not ok to tell someone they are doing something wrong.)

I've said it elsewhere, but the GCBTW meme is real. I've never been part of another community online that lionizes passive-aggression as strongly as this one. According to FFXIV players, everything from straight up yelling to improvement suggestions are "toxic". But if you can couch anything you say in layers of bitchy refusal to make firm statements about anything while implying all of the above, then you're a stand-up member of the Great Community.

I would KILL for a parser on Consoles so I can improve myself. The few times I've been parsed by randoms in PF has shown me only in the 50th percentile and I would like to get better but I'm totally in the dark on what I'm doing wrong so I can correct it. Watching videos or reading guides don't help me at all because there is clearly something that isn't explained in those guides that I am missing and I want to know what it is.

If are friends with any PC players who can join you for duties who may or may not have forbidden tools installed, ask them to input your meticulously hand calculated numbers into xivanalysis. Can do this yourself too! Just go to where you found those numbers and paste the link from one website to the other. It will give you some basic pointer stuffs but is tuned for 90 raids/trails so keep this in the mind.

Have some of the extended family playing on console. Others do this for them all the time and they have found it most helpful indeed. They are very very focused on improving so being able to see that improvement in real time brings them great joy.

Yes other games have different things to them but not much you can do about it because when you signed up to play this game, you agreed to the TOS in which states their policy on 3rd party add ons. Really surprises me that people are acting so shocked that SE is doing something when they always have, just not this much publicly.

I think people are "shocked" because SE is very inconsistent on how and when they enforce their TOS. Their enforcement seems to follow community outrage and I'm sure in a few weeks when everyone forgets about JP message boards being salty about not getting world first and blaming it on mods we will go back to the status quo of SE not really enforcing their TOS again.
