This community has always been a cesspool.
This community has always been a cesspool.
Welcome to the internet, being anonymous and not punished for being a moron enables such behavior it's been that way for years. Thinking this is just FFXIV is being dishonest.
The bigger a "community" gets the more black sheep it'll have, simple as that.
I don't think there isn't a single community in the world that isn't full of toxicity, it's just how our monkey brains work.Honestly, I think we all just need to take a step back and look at ourselves beyond the clown makeup.
This community has been getting so toxic lately. We can argue, complain and moan about the stuff thats been happening lately but frankly I think we all just need to take a break from FFXIV and ourselves and go do other things.
People having different opinions isnt a cesspool, a circus, nor is it even slightly toxic.
I think people are way to quick to start crying once they realize they arent in a hugbox echo chamber and that needs to stop. Grow up a bit. You shouldnt want to control everyones thoughts to that degree that seeing someone have an opposite opinion of you makes you think they need to disappear. I have no idea whats going on lately that it's even like this. You know? When did we as a society get this insanely sensitive that we cant tolerate someone not agreeing with us?
Do I think the people freaking out and making intentionally obtuse statements about add-ons are overall annoying, yes. But do I think they're being toxic? No. They're allowed to voice what they think. They're not toxic for it. I'm guessing from their perspective, they feel like...because no one was punished for it to this degree before, then punishments should never happen. They know just as well as I do that yoshi has always said the same thing about not using them. They just dont like that their precious streamers who make money off their views and in turn expect us to kiss the ground they walk on-they just dont like that their lord and savior reaction channel streamers are being told no for once. They're losing sleep over it. and I'm sorry to hear that, but they're not toxic for crying. To them, their feelings of anguish are very real. and to me, well clearly I think thats all silly and that all anyone has to do is not stream and tell the world that they're breaking a rule. I'm not toxic for that either, even if you find it horrific. Even if you fall to your knees and scream to the sky "-but breaking rules on live television should be fiiiiiiiiiiiine!!!!" it still doesnt actually make me some terrible person. It means we disagree.
You will disagree with people your entire life. and if that's too much then well, that sounds a bit worrying.
This is a Great Community.
Just not on the Forums.
In Game, completely different.
Ive been here and in game long enough to see the difference.
I think that the problem is that people actually enjoy being upset about things, it goes beyond FFXIV too you can see it everywhere outrage culture is a very real thing and I think a lot of people don't even realize they're a part of it.
That said millions of people play the game, a handful of the same people going out of their way to be upset about something at all times is ultimately irrelevant.
It's the same names all the time, having the same negative circlejerk and having the absolute least charitable takes imaginable about the devs every single time.
You need to pay a certain construct in a certain lighthouse a visit. Since your math is really off.Honestly, I think we all just need to take a step back and look at ourselves beyond the clown makeup.

But just to explain it to you...really slooooooowly:
The entire forums + all the people reporting streamers and whatever happens atm =/= the community.
But this is a common fallacy, you see it in streamers/youtubers too. "I got a death threat this community is so awful and toxic." I hope i don't have to explain why this kind of pigeonholing is a fallacy, you see a tiny fraction of a community doing bad stuff and thus you think the whole community is bad for whatever reason. Meanwhile the overwhelming amount of the community neither cares about this drama nor about you and the forums and just play the game.
But to give another example of how bad this kind of point of view actually is. Your conclusion is the same as saying "Oh america has so much gun violence, therefore all americans are violent lunatics." This is obviously not true, you just project a very loud minority of a certain group of people as the leading example of said group. We can put you also in such a conclusion btw., you are posting such takes on the forums thereby you have to be a troll. And maybe you are one, maybe you are not but i bet you would say you are not a troll. Which would mean you found a better conclusion than the one you had before.

I suppose the forum users don't play the game.
It's the same community. The only reason people don't speak up as much in-game, is because they are afraid of getting banned.
