This small forum community is comprised of various players in the FFXIV community. It is very reflective of the community, you just don't see it in game as much now because they have such vague ToS on how you speak in game, it's safer to just not talk to random players at all and complain on the forums.
I think the whole "don't speak in-game or you'll be banned!" sentiment is greatly exaggerated and played up. There have been a lot of posts on the forums claiming that, but within the very same post, they've sprinkled curse words all throughout. And then you have the times where people have posted actual screenshots, trying to blame the other players for doing the bad, and they themselves are the ones who were being absolute prats. There is a certain disconnect with a lot of people on how they actually speak & act, and I imagine these are the same people that claim they've been falsely suspended/banned and spout the "don't talk in-game" mantra.
As for the people complaining & making awful comments outside of the game and/or forums....kudos to them for knowing where it's appropriate and where it isn't. This is lost on too many people. It's really not that hard to at least be civil to the randoms you interact with in-game while venting in a safe-space somewhere else.
Well, I didn't speak and I got warned* (in-game).I think the whole "don't speak in-game or you'll be banned!" sentiment is greatly exaggerated and played up. A lot of people get by, because they simply aren't being actively reported for what they are doing. It also probably depends on the GM.
One of my forum bans is for "profanity", by the way. When you get banned on the forums, they show you what it was for, my post was self-censored. I didn't actually use the word. So you certainly can (could) get banned for curse words on here, and I'd rather not risk doing it in-game.

This was back a LONG time ago. Moderators were a lot more active back then. I don't really use them anymore in games or message boards. I mean, I still do, when I am comfortable with a friend, like casual conversation over discord or something, but I've been pretty conditioned now.

Excuse you? It's BEST community BTW. We earned that award!
somehow...
probably violently.
When you deal with human beings, never count on logic or consistency.

Gah. Whenever I see a post like this I wonder how some of you became so jaded. I've played this game for a long time and the number of negative experiences I've had here is absolutely and completely dwarfed by the positive ones. If all someone is seeing is ugliness wherever they look, perhaps consider ditching that scene entirely and try spending time with different people instead. And if you still continue to run into problems no matter where you turn, then consider that the issue may be closer to home.
I was just putting out a dumb hot take with that statement, my bad. Of course my experience with the in-game community so far has been positive. While some stuff from forums do show up in certain party chat convos for me like how I mentioned the whole add-on fiasco, I still feel like people are just being super disingenuous, mal-informed or just plain being stupid. Im no special sunshine either as Im a big memelord but its personally aggravating to come to these forums sometimes to try to find constructive discussions about the game because I love talking about it but currently like 90% of the people are busy malding over each other and it just dilutes any meaningful conversation.Gah. Of course you can get in trouble for profanity. :X That's what I'm trying to get at....too many people seem to lack the understanding that if they use colorful language or act like a jerk in-game or online, there is the chance they can be reported over it as they are technically breaking the TOS. It's a calculated risk I suppose, but if people are that concerned, I'd like to think that we are all capable of carrying on a conversation without having to resort to profanity or inappropriate interactions.Well, I didn't speak and I got banned.I don't think it's exaggerated at all, I think it just requires people to report the player. FWIW, I've also had a forum suspension for profanity (10 days to boot!). Mine was for a comment along the lines of "if you don't want people to think you're a bum*, don't do that"). I thought it was rather petty as I only used the mildly-upgraded British version of the word, but alas, it still broke the TOS and it is what it is. But I'm not sitting over here like OMG I CAN'T TYPE ON THE FORUMS ANYMORE OR I'LL GET BANNED!! I'm just slightly more careful with my words.
