Suggestion: option to choose pronouns used in quest text/cutscenes

Saw this suggestion on twitter and thought it worth mentioning!

I think it would go a long way to furthering inclusivity in the game if we could select the pronouns that were used for our character, irrespective of our model; I recognize that with voice lines it would be a lot of work to add genderless text options, but even selecting between he/she would go a long way!

I play in English because that's the language I speak. English has no pronouns for genderless or unknown genders. Back when the language was created (yes, patriarchal society), "he" was chosen to represent genderless or unknown. Somehow, people have decided that the PLURAL pronoun should be used for single unknown/genderless individuals. Not just FF14 either. This should not continue as it makes the statements confusing at best. We have not invented a pronoun for transgendered, genderless or unknown genders in English, but using the plural pronoun is NOT the answer. AND it really sounds stupid. Either use "he," as the language intends, or invent a SINGULAR pronoun. I'm glad you brought up the pronoun issue, because it bugs me.

They is a singular pronoun and has existed in English for a long time.

They is a singular pronoun, just fyi xix. It's ALSO a plural pronoun. But people use 'they' for singular all the time. It's perfectly normal, and you're just factually and provably wrong to pretend it isn't. And it WAS perfectly normal to use they as a singular pronoun even when I was in school 20 years ago. This is not new. It's just now that people want to use that as their default, people are suddenly pretending it's not normal.

But yes brimstone, I agree 100%. Separating character model from pronouns is definitely something this game should implement. Even if they're not ready to let people have neutral pronouns...

I’m guessing you have no issues with “you are” being used both for singular and plural targets in conversions? We don’t use “you is” when talking to a single person. “They” similarly has both singular and plural uses; to ignore that is an arbitrary inconsistency.

Neat idea and I'd be fine with it. Never gonna happen tho. Identity politics is a purely western thing and the devs dont want to risk irritating the Asian side of the playerbase as JP gamers despise JP games being changed in anyway to cater towards western influences.
