Well if the rumors about Sony acquiring SE are true
Sony already owns a minority stake in Discord
So then Discord would become a first party peripheral
problem solved
Most people are clearly overexagerating to point out the insanity and hypocrisy of some of the statements, arguments and bans of the past few days.
It's the flavour of them month, and it'll pass when the outrage crowd forgets about 3rd party tools again and the people baiting them no longer get any results. And then when the next Ultimate drops and people will still be using 3rd party tools cause SE still hasn't fixed the netcode and still hasn't implemented all UI improvements and still does not provide feedback on one's own performance, we'll go right back to having this discussion and these threads all over again. It happened after TEA, it is happening after DRU and I am sure it'll happen again after whatever the next high-profile high-difficulty fight is going to be.
It's already arguably second-party since the platform owner (Sony in this case) has a business relationship with Discord and already provides some integration with it on the PS4/PS5, including when you are playing FFXIV.
Steam would also be more of a second party than a third party, meaning that Steam overlays or other integration would be fine.
