Thanks for the adventure, and may SAM rest in peace

    Hey everyone

It's not another post to complain. I just feel I needed to write this.

I really enjoyed (and still do) FFXIV, it's definitly one if not the best mmo I ever played ! The MSQ are something else, it's a journey we would like to never stop. I was actually starting to enjoy the endgame as well. But here it comes, despite all the respect I have for the devs and the huge work they made since the beginning of this adventure, I just cannot take the recent SAM changes. This job was everything for me, I wasn't just playing FFXIV, I was playing a Samurai in FFXIV and there is a huge difference.

Beyond the fact that it ruined it for me, it's also the [non-existant] communication from SE that I would like to point out. I am not expecting them to instantly reverse the SAM changes, but at least a statement or something to show they are listening to the players. For now it looks like this forum is useless af.

I won't repeat what we all said on other posts about Kaiten, crits, and other changes that I wish never happened. So here I go, with no hate, I hope all the current SAM players enjoy the game as much as I did. The new players may not see the difference either since they won't know what just happened, and it's good for them. I wish everyone have fun, because it's what the game is about !

I may come back at some point, I will read the patch notes and everything, but for now maybe I'm just not the target devs expect on their game anymore, and it's fine by me. I was just expecting more communication from them.

You all have fun ! SAM players, either way these changes affects you or not, I hope you enjoy yourself on this game, because it's what it's about ! I was definitly not expecting this to happen to our beloved job, even more for no reason. If you do not care about it, it's good for you ! I wish it could be the same for me, but I just cannot accept this current low cost version of what I known as the best job. Btw, no need to ask me for my stuff, gils, or other troll replies, I don't have time for this and as I said, I may come back later so I rather keep my goods

Thanks FFXIV for the adventure ! See you guys ! SAM, you won't be forgotten.

I would never quit a game that I love playing because I'm unhappy with a certain change, especially if I find many other aspects still enjoyable. By quitting, the person I'm hurting the most would be myself. It also means my friends now have one less person to play with.

Contrary to your belief, not everyone has to live their life inside a video game. For some, it is just that --- a game with no bearing on how they function in life, or it is one of several hobbies they have and they are more interested in something else, or maybe they preferred to vote with their wallets to show their disappointment.

It's great that you are this attached to a video game for several reasons to the extent that you said you would hurt yourself the most if you stopped playing it, but you should understand it's not the same for others. And frankly, to point out your attachment to a video game, with express purpose to belittle the decision of someone who is quitting the game because they do not enjoy it anymore, just because you are so attached to it seems a bit disingenous.

imagine being offended that someone would use the forums for feedback.

This guy happens to be a part of a niche whose enjoyment hinges almost entirely on one job. Those people exist. Just like how people like you exist that enjoy the game for your own reasons. Please respect the fact that other people enjoy the game for different reasons and that if something that they really enjoy has been tampered with, they will use the forums to try to make their presence known. Yes, when people are upset, a fringe of them will turn to vitriol, but that doesn't invalidate their criticisms. Then people like you take that fringe's anger, and use it as a strawman to invalidate an entire demographic of players that happen to like something you dont care about. That is what it looks like what you are doing.

There's like 19 other combat jobs...you can't find enjoyment in any of them?

Enjoyment? Sure, but on the same level as 6.08 samurai? No - not even close actually.

What I liked about samurai was it's frequent and varied use of OGCDs and the fact that it didn't have to babysit cooldowns. The satisfying burst damage was also apparently a big draw, though I didn't know that until I lost it.

    - Monk rarely gets to use OGCDs and has no variety - it feels slow and monotonous to me.
    - Dragoon has tons of cooldowns to keep an eye on, which I actively try to avoid.
    - Ninja has tons of cooldowns to keep an eye on, which I actively try to avoid.
    - Reaper feels slow and monotonous to me - it's cooldown light, having a debuff to manage instead, but I get bored with only having the basic 1-2-3 combo when nothing else is available.

    - Dancer is the next best thing that I've found - cooldown light, rotation varies based on procs, lots of OGCDs to use, satisfying burst - only downside for me is that, like Reaper, its base combo gets extremely boring if nothing else is available and you're not getting procs.
    - Bard has tons of cooldowns to keep an eye on, which I actively try to avoid.
    - Machinist has tons of cooldowns to keep an eye on, which I actively try to avoid.

    - Black Mage has virtually no OGCDs and I dislike how immobile it is by default. I understand that having to work around that is part of the challenge, but I find that more annoying than anything.
    - Red Mage's proc gameplay helps prevent their basic combo from being overly boring, but they lack the OGCD frequency that I enjoy.
    - Summoner I can't comment on really - I don't have it max level yet, but so far I hate it - it feels unbelievably monotonous.

DPS is my preferred role, so I won't bother commenting on tanks or healers since I have no intention of maining a tank or a healer.

I am very picky, and on my 1st account it took a long time figuring out what I liked playing until I came to the decision of Samurai. Nothing else comes close " for me personally " at the same level of enjoyment of 6.08 Samurai. I also been through a lot as Samurai, in the very short time I played.

    On my 2nd account
    • Started out FFXIV using the level Boost as Samurai
    • Finished ARR as a Samurai
    • Finished Heavensward as Samurai
    • Finished multiple beast tribes as Samurai
    • Joined my first few FC's as Samurai
    • Glamoured everything to fit my Samurai
    • Finished Stormblood as Samurai
    • Did Eureka as Samurai
    • Did Bozja as Samurai
    • Finished Shadowbringers as Samurai
    • Completed my 1st Savage as Samurai
    • Became BiS for the 1st time at end ShB as Samurai
    • Helping countless parties in PF as that Lala/Dorito Samurai
    • Finished Endwalker as Samurai
    • Finished my 1st tier lockout as Samurai

I have tried my best to like tanking and healing, I just don't like it. Being ranged isn't my playstyle, and none of the other melee classes appeal to me enough to steer away from Samurai. From Aesthetics, Rotation execution, Skill animations, the weapons, the glamour, how my character moves being Samurai - it all clicks for me. I am that picky.

Aside from housing that I do enjoy and the housing lottery totally went flawless for me... =__=;... I do not find enjoyment in something else I tried wasn't fun for me, nor something I can't get attached to.
