Hi, just bought this game a few days ago on sale, still learning to love it to be honest, but so far I'm still willing to try out everything it has to offer.

My problem is I couldn't see other players' messages. I already enabled/ticked every chat item to Show (hell, I just ticked Show All), but I'm still not able to read other people's messages. I could see my own, so I dont think it's a case of simply scrolling down the chatbox. Is there something else I should do?

That's really weird. The game should ship with most things, like Say, Shout, Party, Linkshell, Tell on in the default window by default. Try resetting your chat logs and double-check you're editing the right one. The current Chat Filter editor is weird in that there are two windows with two tabs each and all have an "Enable Tab" check box, but you can edit their filters while that is unchecked (and they're hence invisible).

Thanks for the reply man, tried it and didn't work. I bought this for $7.99 digitally from amazon a few days ago, I'm starting to enjoy it ironically since posting this thread, but this problem with my chat box is a big letdown.

I've never heard of this happening before. You should submit a bug report over at the in-game bugs forum. Be sure to fill out the template to get the fastest response.

Try reinstalling the game too, and see if that fixes it.

Are you sure it's not just players being silent? Most of the time there is little to no chat as people prefer to stick with their shells.

Well, I'm not sure Soukyuu, I'm used to entering MMOs then seeing a lot of people chat (especially the usual trolls), and I haven't seen a person talk yet, and I've been playing for like 3-4 days already. I made sure i picked a really populated server from the list when i started... I randomly partied with some guy and he wasnt uttering a word to me even though I was trying to communicate with him...

That does sound weird. There was some kind of glitch happening to some people making them stop getting party messages, but it was usually fixed by relogging. First time I hear it happening for 3-4 days in a row.

You could go to the Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV\user folder and remove everything in it. This will reset any UI/chat/macro settings you had (as well as saved characters), so you might want to make a backup somewhere first to see if this will fix it. The game will simply recreate the needed files on next boot.
