but years of warnings in live letters and posting by Yoshi saying "dont use 3rd party addons" isnt warning enough? apparently a lot of people DID ignore those. The ToS saying "dont use 3rd party software" isnt enough of a warning?

I understand you are in the camp of "well they said not to do it for years, but this is the first time they caught me so it should just be a GM visit and I am scott free" but I think a suspension is a firmer version of "dont do this" since verbal warnings, written warning have not been enough. a vacation does tend to ensure compliance. which is why I think they need to start banning gil buyers, do that enough times and the sellers will not be selling that much, and the number of bots decrease. banning brings the tenuous nature of your connection to your game account to the forefront.. a chat with a GM does not.

That was not the communication, that was the community's misinterpretation of it. If you don't harass people or bring it up no one can know. If you don't harass people or bring it up no one can report you. It doesn't mean it's safe to use as long as you don't harass people.

They are in the right to go as heavy handed as they want to.

10Days, despite the countless interview and lodestone written warnings, is actually LENIENT if you ask me.
So stop trying to act like this isn't fair.

Fair was SE more or less saying, "we can't see it but we don't want people doing it" -> Translation for the impaired -> If we catch you, you can get in trouble"

Streaming it openly provides them the proof to "catch you".

I believe you have to agree to the terms of service to play the game so if they weren't aware of the rules, that's on them. Doesn't matter how new they are.

Surely, we agree, but it's hard to follow a ToS that even SE interprets on a case by case basis rather than a hard black and white and now we've arrived at this point because of that.

No, this was willfull ignorance and interpretation on SE's part.
They let it get this far while placing blame on the playerbase.
