There's some truth to what they said but it's not entirely accurate. It used to be called discordapp and that was also the URL. On the original homepage for Discord back in 2015 they had FFXIV logos splashed around.

I remember first joining discord because they were directly partnering with xivdb back in the day iirc. I thought it was a neat, free alternative to TeamSpeak but it was a hassle moving friends off of Skype at first.

People are being disingenuous and you know, you do you. There's a clear difference between Discord, Calculators, Shaders, cosmetic changes, general quality of life stuff vs having a bot call out mechanics before they exist (and list them in order for you too as a ui element), using a program to ignore animation locks + being able to triple or quad weave w/ no detriment, etc etc.

I don't think anyone cares half a sh-- about people using simple UI mods, like showing peoples job icons, floating chat boxes, etc. or about people changing how things appear on their client.

It does suck that it's become everything or nothing though, I will say.

(I do not advocate using any mods, regardless.)

Sure there is but you are missing the point. There's no third-party definition and that includes Discord too. The whole point is to show that the rules are absurd and dumb.

So let's say I'm into robotics and make a little robot to press keyboard buttons. And then program it to hit the buttons to execute a rotation for me? Am I creating a third party tool or does it not "interact with the game"?

The bot would be...playing the game... which is in fact...interacting with the game....

If you have the Discord Overlay turned on (puts a list of whose talking in the top left of the game) then it's interacting with the game

No... it's not. It's an Overlay that is visual on top of the game. It is not interacting with the game...
