I think what also hurts him for me is the fact its a 3d MMO as opposed to a 2d anime or cartoon. ...And even in anime I have a hard time finding some of the over the top faces to be funny. Here in FFXIV? It just gives extreme creepy vibes.

Slap stick comedy is kinda their thing, honestly. Not too surprising that they incorporate it when and where they can.

It's easier to find people around the worlds who laughs at silly man getting bit by a dog in the crotch because anyone can easily understand the situation.

But, all in all, Hildy quests are a complete hit or a complete miss. There doesn't seem to be a middle point.

Asahi, hands down, but he's meant to be unlikable so they got that right, and I'm fairly certain the current Fandaniel persona was just an excuse to bring him back. Other characters that I don't necessarily dislike but consider... "narratively wasted" would be Zenos, Lyse, Y'shtola, and the entirety of the PLD questline.

I don't find him funny. That's it. Do I hate him as much as other NPCs? I don't think he makes my top ten. It helps he's 100% optional.
