So... Mog Bonanza a possibility in XIV?

Just something that hit me today that many moons ago in XI Square held a "quarterly?" event where you would speak to an NPC moogle, get ten maximum marbles with five digits each. Either you create the numbers or let AI pick them.

After a few months, they would announce the winning numbers and you'd claim a prize depending on how many digits match. It's similar to the cactpot system we have now, where all numbers is the grand prize, then last four, last three, etc.

Prizes would range from ingame items, from harder content like Savage, Ultimate, Unreal, and with XIV this could extend to cash shop items, Gold Saucer items, even previous Feast/PVP/contest items (Strife hair) items that are no longer obtainable for the moment too. Now they COULD also create some new items but the players may not like the idea of something that seems only obtainable just by winning as seeing the housing lotto. For ultimate items, perhaps an "imitation" glamour of the same weapon, like when GARO had undyable tarnished versions. XI players didn't seem too bothered by randos getting endgame items but looking at other places like Reddit and Twitter, it's going to nettle some folks. Have to factor in the newer kind of playerbase.

Just getting a feel if people would be interested in this making a return in some form? Like during Moogle Tomes where we have until the beginning of the new patch to see if you won and you can use mog tomes to purchase up to ten marbles.

while i like the idea in concept, the pool of items would have to be very limited imo, because you just cannot invalidate the work put into savage/ultimate clears for someone to just randomly be awarded something from it.

It could work with tradeable cosmetics, similar to Kupo of Fortune. High-end content rewards are off the table, as an important component of their desirability is the skill and effort required to obtain them.

I know it isn't necessarily a valid comparison, but as a long time FFXI player, I don't feel Mog Bonanza trivialized the acquisition of these items. Many of the desirable items were Rare/Ex (Unique/Untradeable in FFXIV-speak). It wasn't like they were giving out Wivre mounts or anything. Sure, there were some tradeable items (Herald's Gaiters comes to mind), but keep in mind that just like FFXIV, gil wasn't really the limiting factor for players in FFXI. There were many ways to earn gil, but if you weren't in a large linkshell that farmed certain open-world contested enemies, you had 0% chance of getting these items. However, with many ways to earn gil, you could just buy them.

With that said, I don't know how SE could implement Mog Bonanza in FFXIV. Most items from ShB and earlier and relatively easy to obtain since you can just unsync the content. Maybe a voucher for any relic you want from a particular expansion? I suppose that could work. It is essentially glamour only and doesn't affect the marketboard at all. Something like that would cheapen the achievement though (for those that count that). How about a voucher to automatically win any housing in the lottery? That would be a great prize for some.
