I keep seeing it over and over again..matches with anywhere from 500k-1 million damage dealt and then monk just sitting there at 300k. All different players at medium levels. Is monk really that bad?

no lmao Monk is almost S tier the ST pressure they can peform is beyond good and evil
Consider this; it takes 12.6 or 14 seconds to get to Phantom Rush, which is the only AoE damage dealing ability in that one button combo, and when you finally do have it, you get cc'ed (stun, silenced, bound, heaved, etc.) and if you don't have have Purify off cooldown, you'll be back to Bootshine and will spend another 12.6 or 14 seconds just to get to Phantom Rush.
They need to bring back Monk from pre-patch Crystalline Conflict.
MNK has the lowest overall output, because all that MNK Players ever do, is stunlock bullying one single enemy, run away and wait until the victim is alive again (since that is JUST enough time for your full Burst to be ready again) and then rinse and repeat.
Favorite Victims usually are casters, especially BLM from what i experienced fi(r)st HAND. Dealing with a MNK as BLM is compareable to your first ever prostate exam, but if you overcome it, you will be glad its BEHIND you.
? Seems like you've had some bad experience playing as BLM and getting picked on by Monk LOL. I will say this though, Monk's LB does seem like an insult due to the animation and the sounds it plays when Monk hits you with Enlightenment and then follow it up with LB; as if they were specifically gunning for you and only you due to the impact of it's LB.
MNK isn't bad at all. It posts lower damage numbers because it has no poke and virtually zero incidental AoE damage.
MNK is a competent single-target brawler at all times, and a deadly assassin when its ult is up.
Total damage isn't a particularly meaningful stat, especially if you're comparing one job to another instead of comparing, say, two MNKs in the same match.
SCH can easily deal double or triple a MNK's damage over the course of a match, but it's irrelevant because it's all DoT padding.
By the same token, BLM and NIN can get their best total damage numbers by playing the jobs completely wrong.

I wouldnt call it a bad experience, since i do managed to overcome it. But that matter aside, It isn't always about the damage in PvP, sometimes, you need other qualities if you want to outsmart People who, for example, favor Metajobs and are too focused on a straightforward approach that is all about overwhelming someone.
As a monk I feel like a linebacker. Sticky, oppressive, and a lot of ST pressure. I am mostly fine with our damage output. Two gripes I have with the job is Riddle of Earth is a horrible defensive and the way KBs interact with latency is extremely frustrating. Both issues because of how the game is programmed, but then it's up to the designers to work on solutions that account for it, instead of neglecting it.
because rpr is
You must be joking me, every fucking game I am against a MNK as BLM, I know I will have a follower, they don't do anything else than attack me, and every 1 minute, they kill me, why? coz they wait till LB, start stunning me, I use Purify but it doesn't matter, I am still stunned coz purify is broken, and the full combo kill me from 100% HP
it is just disgusting how broke that is, maybe they do not go top damage for the game, but is broken they can do more than 48k damage in a combo with no chance to escape.
