Mostly parses are for people who want to swell their egos.
and then some use it for self improvement, or group improvement for statics.

My static uses parses in a mostly positive way, if we are constantly hitting enrage timer on an ex or savage but unable to clear on a no deaths run, dps is cearly an issue. take your parse and plug it into xivanalysis which can help you figure out what and where did you go wrong for example.

I do not like parse flexing. But the guys in my static do it. However they aren't toxic or snobbish about it- more like "I did better this run." and it's a lot of "nice" after each boast.
I always bring my best regardless of what content I am doing, and I've never had any complaints towards me recently. In the past when I used to run on RDM, someone called me out- but this is long before I knew what bis was or proper rotation. Also, my drg dmg was low even though I never clipped, and rarely did a incorrect weave, it was because I was slow. Out of frustration in E11 savage, I started spamming my rotation and someone complimented me on it and I was like- OH WHAT. I was too slow this whole time? No wonder!!

I remember in my early savage raiding days, a ninja went on and on about his parse and how he was at one point the top ninja in NA. Like, great? Can you put that down as a qualifier on a job application? No one except himself was impressed.

So those are my experiences with it, I and many others are very aware how people wave it around alike a badge and how these people can stir up toxicity to the point of harassment.

This is probably how a lot of expert dungeons and alliance raid logs happen btw: someone has ACT open for the day and bulk uploads everything at the end.

I have in the past though since then I took a very long break and only came back just now I haven’t done anything serious since coming back considering I am feeling a little out of sorts with everything I want to do lol

Yea when I was raiding I would have the person doing the parse to upload so I could see my numbers and see if I was improving in that run. It’s definitely a useful tool, but can be used negatively and sometimes without context.

Unsurprisingly the more you do things the better your numbers.

Parse become a disease when used by ego driven moron that can't control themselves.

But there's zero reason to obsess over numbers in casual content. That makes someone less flexible to react to the idiosyncrasies that happen in a given run because they're more focused on tunnel visioning those arbitrary numbers than being a good teammate.
It really isn't though. This is a false narrative by players that likely just do Trust Dungeons with the reasoning being that people will pick on them for there damage. I have rarely seen in a dungeon, first of all people say much beyond o/ and tyfp and especially people ever talk about dps in a party. It simply does not exist to the extent that you are claiming in casual content. Maybe I just pay 0 attention to in game chat cause I just don't care what anyone has to say in game anyways.

While the guy has a point for Savage prog/clears/reclears, I have to admit that sometimes doing stupid shit to squeeze out uptime is the only source of fun I can find in more casual content in this game. Outside of Savage and maybe some Extreme content, nobody except me gets punished for that kind of behavior, so it doesn't really matter. At worst I get a vuln up, or in some very rare cases, launched off the edge of the arena at 3/4ths the speed of light.

He's completely right about the adverse effect parsing has on job design though. While cases of imbalance (usually pre-ShB) have been incredibly egregious and in dire need of addressing in the past, doing things like tightening damage variance have either had major consequences both in the immediate and far future (first WAR, now SAM, and arguably AST too), or just made jobs less fun.
