FFXIV Biggest Disease....Parsing

Parsing's useful for personal improvement, even the video states this.

The "disease" is the social aspect of parsing, when people do the dumbest things in the world and wipe your clear, when people try to argue your grey isn't a "valid" clear when, frankly, boss is dead, it's also a criticism on how people take the numbers out of context and don't actually know how to read them, how a lot of people who care so much about Parsing actively complain about the little nuances in classes they don't like because they find it difficult to Do Good Parse on and when SE caves to public opinion, ruin the class for the people who Liked It; the people who Like every boss being a striking dummy that requires the brainpower of a dead hamster to optimize, the people who get so bent out of shape about balance of jobs they'd actively blacklist Paladins or Dancers from Savage prior to the buffs those classes received, and so on. How so many people put their entire sense of self-worth and self-validation for existing upon this Earth because they're on a scoreboard no one's going to remember in less than a year.

I mean, granted this isn't even related to SE and is a third party thing so w/e, but worth mentioning:

This is my third tier and I can honestly say the most important part about savage is being mechanically consistent. You want to parse? Optimize around the mechanics. It is literally the only way to do it. I've raided with people who only care about parsing as they go through and they only thing they consistently end up with is at least one death and a carry from the healers because they frankly don't focus where it matters. If they let go of the greed chasing they'd be breezing by with the dreamy pinks after a few runs of polishing each part of the fight. And yeah... as a healer. I'm just so done. I'm trying to do extra prog in PF for curtain call and Chair's video rings in my head each time we're dying to dps getting clipped by pizza slices and wiping the raid. Yes, that's right. We're dying every pull to people greeding because they're not working out how to properly dodge an extreme level mechanic. Because "uptime" is the only thing that matters to them. We can't clear because they can't get it into their heads that high dps comes with practice, after you clear.

I'm someone who loves optimizing. Genuinely, it is the most fun thing for me in this game. But it's such a goddamn pain in the ass to try to do it around people who can't be patient enough to build into it. I might be on mechanic 7 on a given fight, but I've probably only optimized my dps to mechanic 5 and still polishing mechanic 6. I'm dropping all my dps on 7 just to get through it and see the whole thing. I will literally sit there and gcd spam heals, by Yoshi P's will we are seeing this goddamn mechanic through no matter how many greeders are dying. I just wish the damn site could incentivize the right sort of mentality. I've kicked god tier parses from my static for this, and even from PF groups. I don't care if you got 97% on one run. That was clearly a stroke of luck because you've consistently wiped us on an early mech and this is a reclear party. I'd seriously rather a blue player that doesn't die ever. Playing a healer in parse culture is frankly just griefing yourself.

Edit: As an anecdote I force my PF parties to do braindead orbs, because I want the least amount of braincells utilized to maximize success. I had a DRK complain he wasn't getting enough uptime (he wasnt sitting max melee and allowing me to pop them for him) so the strat sucked. This was a P2 prog. These people seriously care about goddamn parsing P1 when the entire point is to get to P2. We didn't see P2.

The biggest disease ffxiv has are people not accepting downtime and wiping parties for literal hours trying to get their burst phase off during lightning pinax on a clear run.

Just do it right once, we just need a perfect run, not you dying to your greed because you refuse to adjust. Tier drop memes.

People who clear with statics and sit in parse parties aren't going out to play in practice and clear PFs. They're going to sit in their 95+ parse parties with BiS ilvl requirements. It doesn't really keep the content alive for anyone else if they parse.

Could you cite any sources you're basing this on?

Whilst I'm not the hardcore raider I once was, back when I was properly into the progression scene I absolutely dove headfirst into various DF and PR traps throughout the ages. Hoping into PF and DF traps to see if you can carry them through is arguably the most enjoyable facet of raiding once progression time is over.

Granted I'll be the first to admit that you don't see this as often as you used to anymore. But I can promise you it's not because raiders are trying to protect their orange logs lol. It's because most 'trap' groups with the potential to be enjoyable don't want the help because it'll cost them chests.

Agree, this doesn’t help anyone or anything. I’d rather those bored people with no way to parse to join PF prog groups and help people clear the tier if they’re bored. And some of them would.

We’re never going to be rid of parsers but it’s important to acknowledge it’s a negative influence in the game because people can’t be responsible with it. That’s a fight nobody will win.

All the idealists use all these arguments that it’s just a tool.. but if most people start using hammers to whack each other instead of building things then maybe it’s not a good tool to put in peoples hands.

Bold of you to assume parsers would join PF runs if Square Enix took away the ability to parse in fully BiS groups. You can safely assume the vast majority would just stop playing the content entirely and if you’ve not already cleared the tier at this stage, what even makes you “entitled” to a BiS parser joining you anyway?

Funny, just from the top of my head I could name over 20 people on my server and a lot more on my DC that do exactly that.
I'm in 3 different CW linkshells and all of them are filled with people that clear in statics but regularly hop into PF to help practice and clear while also enjoying log runs and polishing their performance in premades with people they know are reliable enough to pull it off. They do their reclears early into the week and when the any chest parties pop up on weekends, they hop in. Some of them already have 30+ kills on bosses and this is before unlock. They usually reach 100+ kills on the first bosses and 50+ kills on the last boss during unlock.

So I too would be interested in the sources you're basing this on when it goes against what I see week after week when PF'ing while savage is still locked.
The one thing that keeps people from doing it even more frequently is that they want 2 chests and that's fine. But it means that people like that don't help out because they don't want to, it's because they can't because they get locked out.
