The problem with "You can only posess one of that item"

I'm not sure if this was already talked about in the past but I find it utterly annyoing that I can't have multiple gear items of the same kind in my inventory.

Yes, I know the reason for that is so people don't roll on stuff they already possess (which honestly doesn't work out in savage anyways since you're rolling on gear coffers and not the gear itself) and take it away from other players who still need it but the reason why it annoys me is the following:

I only started playing FF14 recently and Asphodelos is my first Savage Tier.
Also Dragonsong's Reprise will be my first Ultimate.

Since I already optimized my CD usage etc. (I'm playing main sage) for Asphodelos I'm using the low piety/high crit set, for Dragonsong's Reprise on the other hand I can't possibly go in with only 390 piety during prog so of course I'm using other pieces of gear in some slots or other melds on the same kind of gear I use in Asphodelos.

For the latter I for example need the Asphodelos earrings 2 times with different melds but I can't have 2 of them in my inventory which means it is over complicated to switch in between different gear sets which honestly shouldn't be the case.
I know this might sound like a minor issue but this is - one of many - "quality of life problems" this game has.

So instead of keeping players from having multiple pieces of the same gear in their inventory why not just change the roll system in a way that only players who don't already have that particular piece in their inventory can roll on need while every player who already possesses it can only roll on greed.
It would also solve the problem of not taking away gear from people who actually still need it but it wouldn't interfere with stuff like gear/meld optimization on multiple gear sets for different content.

you actually dont need that much piety for progging ultimate because a death often ends up in a wipe soon after.

if its REALLY that bad just buy like. tome chest and pants that have piety and call it a day. there is no need to optimize offensive substats in prog, especially for ultimate where dps checks are less important than doing the mechanics right

I don't plan on stacking endless piety (719 is the goal) for the prog but playing in a non optimized scenario (=prog) means I as a healer have to take responsibility for the mistakes of everyone else.
As Sage this translates into actually using E. Prognosis.
With only 390 piety I can cast about 10 E. Prognosis before I am oom and this doesn't even count random deaths of the DPS or the use of Dosis + E. Dosis.
Also as far as I've seen the fight there are quite a few scenarios where a random death doesn't end in a wipe.
I think optimizing for different encounters (I'm really only talking about savage and ultimate here) should be something to be expected of everyone who actually wants to clear those encounters in an appropriate time frame.

But that isn't the issue here, that was merely an example.

The issue is the system is over complicated when it doesn't have to be.
I don't even get why the restrictions for especially tomestone gear exist in the first place since the only way to get it is to buy it yourself.
In savage the restrictions are pretty much useless too because as I already said:
You don't even roll on gear, you roll on gear coffers which you can need as long as you don't have a coffer in your inventory.

The lack of quality of life (improvements) in this game in a whole is honestly insane.
I really like playing it, I like the raids and the community but there are so many little things which are over complicating a whole system and this is just the one which annoys me personally the most.

    Things like:
    - Not being able to travel worlds with a group but also not having a button to change to a cross world group. Instead you have to sign up your group in PF to change it to a cross world group but then again you can't switch back to a normal group. You have to disband the whole group and make a new one for that.

    - No easy way to move your gear presets up and down in the list.
A drag and drop option would be pretty neat or maybe just change/add one option.
Example: I want to move up a new preset I made. Right now I have 32 Presets safed.
If I want to move a new one up to like 3 I have to click it like 30 times to "Move Set Up" because there is no other way to move it up to be my third preset and keep the order of the rest since the option to "Reassign Set Number" will just switch places of the presets instead of moving them down in the same order.

    - No search function for achievements

    - Skill queue not working with (mouseover) macros

And these are only the things I could think of right now, there are many more of those little issues.
If it would only be a few ok, deal with it, but I honestly never encountered that many quality of life issues in any MMO I've played.

Oh man, that annoys the crap out of me. Why does "reassign set number" make the sets switch places instead of moving everyone else down the list?

    While annoying, that's likely intentional.
