To be fair regulated NFTs aren't the monsters that people think they are. And i don't think SE throws NFTs out there so people can speculate on them like with all the other scam NFTs.
But SE is known for doubling down on bad things so who knows.

Frankly, this is more likely to effect the mobile division at the moment. That tends to be where SEs biggest cash grabs and predatory tactics lie.
I don't believe CBU3 will be effected by this soon, if ever.
Yoshi-P does have some level of control over it, after all.
Yeah, their mobile games are terrible in this regard. I haven't been able to get past the main menu of any of the mobile games I've tried that they've put out. They give you some freebies which aren't even that impressive, but then you have to give your soul for anything else.Frankly, this is more likely to effect the mobile division at the moment. Don’t worry, Sony are going to acquire the rest of Square Enix any moment now COPIUM emoji
Yeah, this. It's entirely possible that SE will experiment with NFTs and gauge reception before applying it to FFXIV.And although there have been assurances that there are no plans to push NFTs towards XIV at this point, I do worry that over longer periods of time it will transition towards it given outside pressure. (e.g. Some form of Square NFT wallet to unlock extra non-NFT items like emotes or glams)
There is at least one exception with Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe (that's actually how it's spelled). Got into it recently, and the game showers you with the crystals needed to summon often, constantly lets you get expedition tickets to speed up the "stat grind" ingame easily, and has set it up well enough to where while a meta exists, it's possible to clear most content with any unit. The only problem is that the game itself is a bit of a grind where auto-battle is often used to speed things up. But outside of that grind, the game is pretty good and has very few reasons to pay real money outside of "Step Up" lines (higher odds of getting the rarest units from the gacha pool).Yeah, their mobile games are terrible in this regard. On one hand, i'm happy that Tomb Raider and those other IPs are being sold to imo a pretty great developer Embracer Group (AKA THQ Nordic).
On the other hand, SquareEnix just sold some of the most prolific Videogame IPs in history for some Monkey JPEGs.

Strongly this. It says a LOT about their priorities. On one hand, i'm happy that Tomb Raider and those other IPs are being sold to imo a pretty great developer Embracer Group (AKA THQ Nordic).

If they cant turn beloved IPs into a success, then turning a hated technology without a single proven success into something the gaming audience enjoys will be impossible.
