    Don't be a dick.
    Don't swear at people.
    Don't ERP.

    That's it.
Anyone making an issue out of "being banned for talking" is likely an insufferable edgelord who thinks it's everyone else's problem that nobody likes them because they're toxic/racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic/etc.

Ultimately you need to be reported for any action to be taken, and reporting someone takes effort, so take from that what you will. The more of a dick you are, or the more people are around to see it, the higher your chances of getting reported I guess.

That's intellectual dishonesty. You don't just "emote" on a corpse. You know full well what you're doing. So don't act surprised when people see through that facade immediately. (I mean you as in people)

Mhhh, maybe it is a problem with NA-servers? In the EU there is much conversation in the /s chat, especially in clubs.

    Cheers

Most clubs I've been to are /beesknees fiestas with no talking :P Only a rare club or two actually have /s open. But I have to say I've been the degenerate who swears in /s and usually people don't bat an eye at all, much less report it

If you're unsure whether your words will offend another soul or not, then it's best to keep it to yourself/do it elsewhere safer.

Doesn't sound harsh imho. I think it's because they actually act upon their regulation when reports come in unlike some other MMO's GM who would often tell you to "grow a thicker skin".

You and I have wrote our piece(s). We don't necessarily need to change each other's mind. But we can change other's."

I've reported profanity from shout chat in the past, but they were not in-jest and calling out people. One even tried to tell me to turn on my profanity filter (its just a client setting, the word(s) are still logged on the server).

    But that's about it.

I assume the rap come from people not talking in underpopulated MSQ areas. If you go to Kholusia for example, it's pretty much just people doing MSQ, role quests, Nier raid quests, and Beast tribe quests. There will be maybe 30 people in the instance so the chances of anyone talking is pretty minor, but when you go to a city, shout chat and say chat is always going on.

But, chat was eerily silent for all the people around me. I haven't payed it much attention, but earlier today I saw people talking in /say, and I half jokingly made a remark. Well, this is what went down.

Are the rules really this extreme where people are afraid to make the social game... well... social? and if so, what in particular is causing this?
all i know is if you start talking about someones dps being poor because thats how you see it on your dps meter youre probably going to be talking to a gm soon.

Thanks for your concern but mind your own business, I've been around for long enough and do fine with my "mindset".
