"Top DPS" is hardly a meaningful statistic in and of itself, no offense to the person you responded to. I could sit there and use AoEs and attack random people and probably hit top DPS by just staying alive and staying out of range also letting people heal themselves as I'm chasing them down.
Meaningful DPS is what's important. K:A doesn't tell the full story either, but it definitely is closer to useful information.

Question. Are there specific rewards you obtain for ranking up in CC? Or, is it just personal victory?

There are Adventure Card based rewards that you receive depending on your rank:

Note: I had heard that they removed the 1-100 ranking rewards due to the cheating, but I haven't seen confirmation of that.

Awesome, thanks for this! I still haven't tried CC yet. There are Adventure Card based rewards that you receive depending on your rank:

I believe it was in a Youtube video or Forum/Reddit post, but now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it. I couldn't find confirmation of it at all from Squenix either. I may have misheard it as a "they SHOULD do this" given the cheating, rather than "they plan to do this." I wanted to make sure I clarified that I hadn't seen confirmation though. Certainly would make sense given the amount of cheating.
Have played close to 500 games before I hit Crystal, with another 100ish games in Crystal itself.
They are balancing the ranks by having a maximum amount of risers you can face, in this case, it is 4. E.g: If you are Gold 1, the lowest rank you can be matched with is bronze 1 (4 risers below), and Plat 1 (4 risers up). I might be wrong. but it seems to hold true for all 600 games.
What I think they need to do is reduce the variance of ranks you can face, since a bronze 3 can literally be matched with a gold 1. But otherwise the only other restriction is unique jobs.

That may vary with how busy each tier is. If there are Silver players active then you're unlikely to be paired with Gold, but if those middle ranks are quiet then you either get paired up or you might be waiting a while.
It does seem like it would play into the impression people are describing that the game "throws harder opponents at them every X runs", possibly linked to going up a notch and suddenly being eligible to be paired with higher-ranked players while cut off from the lowest ones they could previously beat more easily.
