Because its harder to use well. People don't like that
Kneel before the glory of the blood lily!
Hard to say, any time I try to PVP as a white mage, I seem to end up in a 5v1 match while the rest of my party runs around like headless chickens.
Saying a job is "good with a really good team" really doesn't make much sense. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely agree that AST brings fantastic benefits to PVP for the reasons you listed and I actually prefer playing an AST, however right now with the amount of burst some teams can coordinate I really think that WHM is in a better spot. Unless of course you are queue syncing in which case all bets are off.
That AOE burst can really be good consider the initial opener, with the double-cast you can get both the heavy and the bind. however, unless i'm wrong, I've also accidently killed myself due to gravity if I haven't seen a samurai's buff being up--soo that's another downside at times of AST. (or it could just be my eyesight - I find all the effects rather hard to see at times)
In PVP now? funny, I don't find that. i really find that AST skills flow super well. it's really a lot of fun. A couple of QOL improvements would be nice- like the animation lock on the lb- but once you're used to it, it's nice to get it down where you're in a safe spot to get it off.
Between its poly and its ridiculously fast LB charge...it makes me not wanna pvp anymore because I see a WHM literally EVERY match in crystal and its getting old. I see that stupid beam 4 or 5 times a match, sometimes more. Meanwhile on my bard I can maybe get 2 LB's and their LB is pretty meh.
White Mage has to be one of the, if not THE, most busted classes found in FFXIVs new PvP. Every other Healer pales in comparison, with poor Astro eating dirt at the bottom.
I can't think of any other class which swings CC games more. If you see the enemy team with one, and you without, you'd best start praying their whole team are brand new sprouts as it's about to get a whole lot harder.
As well, WHMs can do just about everything needed well for PvP:
1.) Travel good distances with their jump.
2.) Deal pretty good damage in an overall sense, building their LMBs waaaay quick.
3.) Stun whole teams, while also dealing damage.
4.) Heal and cast barriers, obviously.
5.) Literally Polymorph peeps, probably their strongest single ability.
