Definately need mog housing ( sorry but i will always call them that^^) and LS housing as well would be excellent.

Im sure it will happen, just not soon......many , in fact all of the best features of ff will be saved im sure for ps3 release. They will be ff last resort trump cards. if ps3 fails the game will dwindle even more then now and will never make enough $$ to keep it going.

i think all the goodies ppl want
housing, chocobos, MAIL!! sadly wont come for a long long time yet, BUT they will come eventually

I would really like to know from devs if there are plans for housing (in general), in the near future. :/

Agreed Munba. I also really like the original post, I'd love to spend the time improving it for such useful purposes, as well as an area to call my own within Eorzea. Hopefully we hear more on housing in the near future - some kind of personal space is common in most MMOs outside World of Warcraft.

*Edit* Found my keyboard and plugged into my PS3, so that I could give a more proper response, considering you have obviously put a lot of time and thought into that original post, and I'd love to see something like it in the game.

One of the things that I do believe is truly missing is the housing - in my first MMO, Star Wars Galaxies the purchase of your first house was only matched by the purchase of your first vehicle - generally you'd have the slowest vehicle and smallest house, but it was something of your own in the game, your own personal space that would not be identical to others, no matter the best loot or class of the day, that was your first sign of having made something of yourself in the game (If you don't know how it used to play, I wont go into it - it isn't important) particularly since you also got to place it almost anywhere in the game world you chose.

Add to this the ability to buy crafting machines (very similiar to the skills you talk of, like the ones you can receive from NPC in guilds currently) and let others come into your house, it was great. I remember at one point I was having graphical issues that I didn't know how to solve, though inside my home was fine, and all sorts of folks turned up to chat, sitting in the chairs, having a blether - it felt much more natural (and private) than standing around in a city. It was also possible to set up machines/assistants in your home with personalised lines to sell your goods for you. It was really cool searching on the Bazaar for an item and seeing it listed for sale on, for example, Naboo at co-ords X,Y then heading out there to find someones home.

It really makes you feel like the world persists, even when you are not there, rather than things being stagnant as theme parks can often times feel. To be honest, thats one of my main draws to FFXIV at the moment as well. Knowing that if you open your home to the public that people could make use of your facilities (perhaps for a small charge, ohohohoh!) would be great, or even just so they could pet your chocobo :P

As you mention, Minecraft and the Sims are hugely popular games and as of the moment FFXIV doesn't do a particularly bad job of catering to various types of gamer - I'm not much of a crafter, and tired of fighting in games, but I love gathering and knowing the things I gather go on to make further products in the future - I also remember people in Star Wars Galaxy who never picked up a weapon in their life, subsisting on crafting and creating amazing homes. The amount of entertainment such ability adds can never be underestimated, and I know I'd personally love to be involved in gathering the raw materials needed for players to build such things, and know that we were making another player happy in their virtual home.

Anyway, I love your idea, and definitely hope we see something with even 1/5th of the depth come their (hopefully) eventual inclusion.

Id prefer both individual housing and company housing, that you get to from the "market ward" entrance/exit area. I second this motion

I would like to see both Player housing and Linkshell housing.

I like the OP's ideas on how to build up the house. However, I would like to see that there is a beginner shack that every player gets for free. The player should be able to upgrade the shack, but not in any major way. This shack would have the cheapest foundation, so it couldn't support more than a single story, nor could it support high quality walls or heavy furniture.

Once the player decides that this house is not enough, he is given the option to sell it (to a NPC). Selling his house does not net him much money, definitely less than the amount of money put into the house in terms of upgrades. After the player sold his or her house, they would get the option to buy a plot of land. The land would come in several shapes, sizes, features, and of course, costs. The largest would of course be very expensive. (I should have mentioned a while ago, that this idea depends on individually instanced player housing) While the player is currently homeless, they would be able to use a room at the in. After they purchase their plot of land, they can start building the house from scratch.

Now of course, the more complicated the process is to build the house, the more resources and manpower that they have to put into the game. But I could see this being a major selling point of the game.

I believe that player housing has the huge advantage of allowing a player a personal space within the game that they can customize however they wish. However, I would also like to see Linkshell houses that are larger than what the players can obtain and would cost a very large amount of money to produce. These houses could contain facilities for crafting and other cool things people would want. These halls could also contain Linkshell management functions and group crafting facilities. They could house the Linkshell bank. Of course systems would need to be put in place to prevent abuse of these linkshell halls and the bank, but this could be a very interesting and bring quite a bit to the game. Individual Linkshells could compete to see who could build the most valuable house.

If I ask nicely, can everyone please quit calling them moghouses? I'm fairly certain there are going to be no moogles involved in our houses this time due to the world design.

That's what we recognize them as, if and when they change the name people will stop calling them mog houses.
