Very interesting and elaborated ideas there Psion (hope this will turn to be the main housing thread without having fragmented topics/posts around ^^).

I would add some sort of "reward" when you rest in the house, so the players are encouraged to visit it often. Because we know, some players want their reward to do everything eheh (not me though). This reward could be a bonus for the fatigue. For example, if you have a rest of several hours, your fatigue could decrease faster than the normal and when fatigue reaches 0, you could gain some "rest bonus" points for every hour. This increases the exp/sp you'll gain for a certain amount of time after the rest. This sort of bonus could increase if your house becomes more comfortable (adding particular furnishings), so the players are encouraged to make fornitures too.

Another idea could be this: more you work on the house (adding fornitures or expanding it), more you become 'expert'. I'd add a new rank bar for this porpouse. Every new rank you'll have a new "title" -visible for other players in the housing section in your /check page- (ex. amateur, interior designer, master architect and so on). And every rank will give you a bonus as well. This bonus could affect the next forniture you'll put in the house or all the fornitures you already have (if every item will have a bonus like in FF11, this bonus could increase depending of your rank).
Another 'reward' for this could be that if you reach a certain rank, you'll be able to make "projects" on sheet to sell (map of the house you create/furnish, complete with fornitures position and stuff). This map could be generated by game poligonally or drawn by you with an in-game paint-system (but maybe this could be too time-consuming to create by the devs).

Concluding, housing should have a little but integrant part in the game (interacting with other in-game systems and other players) and not an activity with visual porpouse only imo. I'll add other ideas when i'll have them more elaborated (and suitable) in mind.

Wow, that idea of resting in your home to lose fatigue and gain more experience is brilliant!

I think putting nodes in a house is fine for gathering, but make it so you can get items but no SP. Make it a utility only kind of thing, so there's less abuse. That way it could have many or infinite gathering attempts but it would fall under the same rules as any other node in the world.

Say you put a certain type of tree in, that tree in the world already has a specific drop table so then that tree would also only be able to produce those types of items. Then if you wanted to put another tree in you'd have to have sufficient space as well as the money to do so. Also maybe certain nodes could be specific to certain regions, as they already are in the game.

Everyone should go back and at least like the first 2 posts. Go do it for the sake of Mog Houses!

We definitely need player housing, it would give us so much more to do in the world! I know I'd personally spend dozens upon dozens of hours just creating and/or collecting furniture and various things to put in my house.

By the way, if anyone gets their own ideas on how mog houses should work, go ahead and post it! I'll edit the OP to include your post number for it to be easy to find your ideas in this thread, and if I can figure out a way, make it a link to that post to make it a quick jump!

Regardless, let's keep these discussions happening! ^^

Great ideas and well written. I'd love to have my mog house back. However, I would also love to see a guild hall implemented if they do choose to add in mog houses. Every adventurer wants a place to call their own and the same can be said for linkshells. A place where all your members can gather and interact would just create an awesome community. Also, if your idea was to be implemented, this would not be a far stretch if they already had customizable housing features designed. These guild halls could be even larger and more grand than individual mog houses, with each member helping to build it from the ground up. You could even go as far as to make all the features in your guild hall only craftable (if that's a word) by guild members. This would go even further to promote synergy, as well as prestige, amongst your linkshell.

More ideas just keep coming now xD. SE could possibly even create drops on hard end game monsters which are required for building some of the more extravagant guild hall features. This would just be a new and cool way to show what your linkshell has accomplished. I can just envision all the high rank DoW going out and taking down a hard boss. Getting the drop and handing it off to the high rank DoH to create the finished product for all to see. I believe having both DoW and DoH working together is the real point to FFXIV.

However, I would like to mention that I do not think that there should be a garden/ outside area for nodes in guild halls. This would just be taking it to far and would definitely get abused. While I do fully support the idea for your mog house, I believe a guild hall should just be a place for linkshells to gather and talk.

So yea, I hope you guys tell me what you think to keep bringing attention to this awesome thread.

Well, I could see the problem with gardening nodes and the like for guild halls, but I'd rather they keep the gardens and the like at least for decoration! Would be a shame to have a beautiful guild hall and no flowerbeds or secret cave hideouts or the like surrounding it. :3
