And I play them for different reasons now.
FFXIV is for raiding (for the most part now) and when new content is launched.
ESO for when I want to feel more emerged in the game due to the freedom of choice on how to play and how the game world feels so much more living than FFXIV's does.
And I don't sub to ESO when I know I won't play much for some time but I can still jump in and just do whatever.
I don’t think raid logging (log on, raid, log off) is healthy for a game. While it says raiding content is good enough to keep people coming back to it I know way too many people who do the same. To me those are signs of a game in life support.

It would be one thing if they did this because of IRL problems like jobs or other stuff but unfortunately the main reason is there is actually nothing interesting to do.

Ultimately I think the overworld direly needs to look like the developers or someone cares about it beyond its release window and after it serves as an MSQ vessel. These are the sort of things that make games feel special rather than generic and abandoned.

Japan is a console-based market. Most Japanese play on console, er-go, it's not "holding everyone back" when the main target audience is using PS4.. maaaybe PS5- the very thing "holding it back".

consoles are only 30-40% of the player base, and I wouldn't exactly call 1 region that makes up part of that 30-40% "main target audience"

I'd love the game to look prettier and have more clutter and detail in many different places; but i strongly believe this game wouldn't be able to handle it properly; the servers/game clients would simply die.

Keep in mind that back in the 1.0 days, there was a Barrel (or was it a flower pot?), an object that had so many polygons, that it caused..... "problems" - our version of the game is still very much built on top of a framework that (to put it mildly) wasn't put together very well, despite the individual talent that went into each piece of the game world.

The fact that we are just NOW getting additional glamour plats and double'd glamour slots, is quite telling of some of the work they've put in to cleaning up the old 1.0 mess underneath, so it feels like progress, but probably nowhere near the point where we'll see complete overhauls to things like world clutter- that's all polygons right there, and a lot of them.

Japanese game, with Japanese devs who read Japanese feedback. The majority of Japanese play on PS4

Regardless, they are still bound to keep the game in line with whatever console is lagging, even if it's only 30%, over niche high-spec PCs.

Moreover, the very fact that it is Cross Platform FURTHER nulifies any "BuT tHe NoObS gOtTa UpDaTe ThEiR hArDwArEs!"

Until the devs decide to drop PS4 support, THAT is the bottom line.

To be fair, that's because it does have a massive memory leak. (Actually, it has several massive memory leaks. I used to be an ARK mod author; I have seen things in that codebase... things that cannot be unseen.)

But I mean, I've seen more than one "How Buggy Is This Game" rating systems where the system is like "For a beta, this is better than many full releases." up through various levels like "Numerous bugs, but none show-stoppers." and so on, with the buggiest rating just being "ARK: Survival Evolved". I love that game, don't get me wrong, but I'm not 100% certain it's the best yardstick to measure anything by.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.

I also like to point out the can and already do this in benchmarks. Now, they take it to an extreme of course since the place is absolutely flooded with people, however, SOMEONE planned the routes for all those NPCs and took time out of their day to make every single one look natural....

So if they can do this for a benchmark that will get used a fraction of the time the game will, certainly they can add these things in game at a greater scale. See Video past 1:29 minutes. I think I have it time stamped to the relevant point.

The place looks alive for sure, imagine at least some of this buzz surrounding all the cities.

Agreed! Love the game, but man what a hot mess.

But that said (and to others), this is why it's important to keep in mind when you say "well X game did Y, so why can't FFXIV?"
There's a good chance FFXIV can, and there's a good chance the code that needs editing to make Y work is Ark levels of borked.

Indeed, I think so as well.
I think the difference to me with FFXIV and ESO is how in ESO everything scales so nothing becomes outdated.
FFXIV gives me the same sad feeling like WoW did, watch old zones/towns almost devoid of people due to it being outdated.
Where in ESO I can always see people anywhere from all ranges of levels run around and do stuff.

    But that's just me.
Around HW I could stay online daily in FFXIV and still have things to do.
But like everything things changes, and in this it is I who has changed.
I know there are a lot of people who still find things to do in FFXIV and likes it.
It's just not what I need atm.

FFXIV is a good game imo.
Otherwise I wouldn't still play it.
But like everything, nothing's perfect and I've just found a balance between two things that works for me.

Yeah all of this is 100% reasonable. And XIV is a good game, its just its got a lot of us so hooked on it we just always want to see more of it, and spend more time in it. This causes us to see all the flaws. Hopefully they'll show some TLC to their existing world.

However, I think if you take this game at face value and consider it something you are going to play through the MSQ and run all the content once and move on to other things in your life. This game is amazing. The problem only happens when you don't want to leave. And you linger. Then... the complaints start haha.
