To restart or not to restart?

Hello, I'm coming back after 7 or 8 years. I had, what I felt at the time was a lot of effort into my character, however it's seems like just a few days work now.

Would it make more sense to use the 90 day level 80 buff on a new character or stick with my original character which was a level 50 whm 45 sum with all hit two doh at 50 (fishing 50)

I'm not sure if rerolling for the xp buff will make it all around easier vs having to put in the work to get the crafting up.

Starting fresh has its appeal, I know that personally myself. What I think is the biggest argument against it, is you may have earned exclusive items/rewards/etc on your current character that you will not be able to ever get again on a new character, or that you can get again but are now cash shop items, and so on.

If you don't have anything in that category, then... by all means start fresh.

Experience is easy to get in this game. It's not worth starting fresh for the experience points. For your main battle class, level is not usually what gates you from content. The main story quests are what gate you. A lot of people exceed the level of their main story quest without any special buffs. If you are behind the level of a quest you can just open duty finder and queue for a duty roulette and it will solve the problem quickly. I recommend you focus on the main story quest if you don't want to be gated from content.

Crafters and gatherers are regarded as easy to level and one of the popular ways to do it is in the Firmament, which you can unlock after getting past patch 3.3 story quests which are after the Heavensward expansion. You can also use leves and beast tribes. Their experience gain has been buffed a number of times.

If you want to experience the main story quests from scratch, you can do it on the same character by unlocking New Game+ outside of The Waking Sands in Vesper Bay in Western Thanalan.

I know this is late, but to anyone else in this situation, I would recommend keeping your character yet giving the New Game Plus feature a shot.

If you've done anything time consuming like relics or pvp or stuff like that, I'd just do NG+. If you don't have anything you care about losing, I suppose starting over isn't a terrible idea. Though NG+ also exists even in that scenario.
