Weapon design contest winners is out!

lots of umbrellas and marine creatures? is this hinting towards a themed dungeon set?

katana/sword hidden in an umbrella has been a pop culture thing for awhile
similar to katana/sword hidden in a cane or walking stick

I personally feel like the two winning shark designs are also not so subtle homages to gawr gura

I was thinking they could add blitzball and make them the prizes....

Since all the winning designs can almost clearly be separated into 1 "cool/badass" design and 1 "joke weapon" design
(with the exception of scholar cuz I personally think the palette would be more of the "joke weapon" but if the order of posting is consistent that would indicate that the fairy book would be the "joke weapon")

I'm fairly confident in asserting that the joke weapons series would be inserted in 1 of two places:
either purchase with mgp at the gold saucer or buy with trophy crystals in the wolves' den

The designer of MCH winner posted a thread on twitter of their submissions for every job using that white ceramic theme based off of Portuguese Azulejo ceramic paintings, and I'm a little be in love with every single one, especially with the concept of images of each appropriate city-state.

contest was announced back in august of last year before reaper and sage were in game but after they were announced

they didn't include templates for either in the original contest

but yah it would be really derpy if every job except RPR and SGE got joke weapons

hopefully SE will make them as well and use other entries as inspiration similar to how when they did armor design contests the winners for one role and then they made the other role sets based on the winning entry

Can't say any of their picks really wowed me, but I've known for a while that my tastes kind of ran counter to FFXIV's overall design aesthetic...

Congrats to all! I think many of the finalists were beautiful. I love the artist's palette and the monk carrot ones!
Sounds a bit sappy but I cried a little bc I was a finalist. Never had any of my art displayed and noticed on this scale before.
I think my inexperience with weapon designs kind of held me back since I mostly stick to people.

this was mine! I wish I woulda had more time to add more to each, bc I felt the time given for the contest was too short.
