An alternative to reduce the reliance on one shot mechanics

As I have been getting back into raiding, I have noticed that there is a lot of one shot mechanics in fights. I know it’s punishment for not doing the mechanic properly but I was wondering if we could do something that’s harsh but not kill outright. I’m not proposing that we remove all one shot mechanics but add something to reduce the number of them.

What do you think of a failure punishment where you take a bad health hit and then a stacking damage down debuff that persists through death with the exception of a healer LB3?

A potential use for it would be on Endsinger EX for the orange planets. It will really hurt but would not instant kill if you do not have vulnerability stacks and we’re at full health.

As players often worry more about their DPS, wouldn’t this be better than instant killing one or more people? They would try harder to avoid death of DPS than death of themselves.

I believe what you are looking for is called "Weakness" and "Brink lf Death"

And is that a veiled attempt to complain about tanks refusing to save you from your own incompetence with LB3? Yikes.

The game is already MUCH easier than most MMOs

We don't need to make it even easier.

Dying is a far worse DPS penalty. Your DPS is 0 while you're dead, and your DPS is reduced 25-50% for 100 seconds once revived (depending on how frequently you've died).

If someone doesn't mind dying, then they don't care about their DPS.

I imagine players would also be rather upset when only healers get to use the LB3 to clear the accumulated damage down debuffs as you propose. Or was that your goal - create a reason so healers get to LB3 more often?

Savage already has been doing damage downs instead of one-shot mechanics for years. Their argument is that it still prevents you from beating enrage but allows you to keep practicing. The problem with that logic is some damage downs won't matter when you all get your tomestone gear.

There are unlimited resurrects so if someone can do that, you also get a damage down that increases if you die twice.

I want mechanics to wipe the party if not done correctly. There are a lot of raid-wide aoes and tankbusters in regular content that don't pose a threat and we don't need it to be like that in high-end duties.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."
