    If you mean "run around doing nothing to contribute to the actual fight, spamming songs and being largely unattractive to the general populace despite the fact that encounters were balanced around the possibility of you being around", I will have to pass. FFXI's Bard is what made me hate the concept of "support". I was indifferent up until then.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    I call it like it is. Few liked playing bard because all the job entailed was spamming songs with /WHM acting as supplement. Problem is, SE balanced stuff in XI around the fact that a BRD was present, which created a problem: Everyone wanted a BRD to maximize performance but the job was not appealing enough to create a sizeable pool of players that played the job. Hence the birth of the princess BRD.

    For all of CoP I used to say that we wouldn't be having that issue if BRD was more battle-oriented like the best "support" class ever made, Lineage II's Blade Dancer. Unlike the song-spamming BRD, BD were insanely popular between being one of the only two classes that could dual wield and the fact the class was only slightly behind the DPS classes (despite it also having the best offensive buffs in the game). SE tried to do that with Corsair (even giving it the whole pirate aesthetic) and proceded to mess it up with how the decent ammo was not worth the cost to make.

    I keep seeing the same tired tripe over and over about how 'they should wait until an expansion pack to add classes like Sam and Nin'. or 'They need to concentrate on getting 2.0 out first before they add new classes'.

    Has no-one thought about the fact that 2.0, whilst being a rebuild of our current game true, is pretty much an expansion pack? and new classes being added would give folk who have a roster of 50's a new level 1 experience of the new game? New classes should most DEFINATELY be added for 2.0, i'd say two or three of them minimum.

    Given what yoshi-p said in interviews, the likely 3 are,

    Arcanist(class) - Summoner(job)
    Musketeer(class) - unknown(job)
    Scout(class) - Ninja (job)

    Due to playerbase demand, a class that branches into Dark knight is likely aswell, however since nothing has been said at interviews on such aside from 'we're looking into adding two handed swords to the Gladiator class', we have nothing to go on there.

    Even though we're all confused and think there's going to be lots of trouble with the class/job system and how each of them are going to branch into eachother...at least we know that SE and Yoshi have it under control and know exactly what they're doing. Now they're just waiting to reveal the details.

    I see people requesting jobs like SAM, NIN and SMN but it goes like:

    Lets make a Strider class that unlocks Ninja!
    Lets make a Ronin class that unlocks Samurai!
    Lets make a Witch Doctor that unlocks Summoner!

    Just some random classes nobody really cares about that exist for the sole purpose of unlocking jobs... that's just effing convoluted/over complicated/gimmicky.


    Hear this out!


    Now this might seem crazy but how about we completely remove classes?





    Calm down, calm down!

    If there are no more classes, you can have your Samurais, Ninjas, Dark Knights AND Summoners!

    Right out of the box, no extra planning, unnecessary classes no armory system and maybe just maybe... more than one weapon to use!



    Maybe we'll even be able to choose what jobs we want to sub... like that other game...
