    Casual is the same really.

I had fun with CC but I think the dice roll aspect bored me rather fast. Some games we steamroll the enemy team and sometimes we get steamrolled. I'm usually contributing well to my team and it would be wrong to say skill has no impact, maybe 3-5%, but overall I'm really just rolling a dice each game. I'm not sure why but it's hard to have a game where I feel good play had a real impact.

There are things I like and dislike about it:

    Like:

    - I can work toward the rewards on my own time
    - I progress whether I win or lose, but I progress MORE when I win
    - There is much more emphasis on group coordination. No single class can carry a match (some classes are better than others though)
    - Matches are shorter

    Dislike:
    - The entire volcano map.
    - The tornados on the wind map that can stun-lock you into a corner (I like the concept, just not that part of it)
    - That some classes have greater advantages (cough, samurai) over others. Come on...two moves that disregard Guard AND a bind AND a shield and an lb that also ignores guard)

I don't necessarily think there are more win-traders/cheaters but I think that because so many more people are playing PVP now that the people that are out there trading and cheating are more noticeable. SE needs to come down as hard on them as quickly as they did with NSFW adventurer plates.

Team Fun vs. Team Irritating: FIGHT!

    Fun:

+ the surprise combo of CC/redesign/garo has revitalized PvP by bringing in more players than ever before
+ queue times are really fast
+ series reward grid is a great feature and makes you feel like you are progressing
+ you can now get the garo and achievement mounts and basic series rewards fairly easily
+ several frontline players seem to have learned their job skills, probably via CC
+ killing dragoons is something we can all get on board with

    Irritating:

    - many new players means many ineffective players
    - losing repeatedly due to factors you can't control is frustrating
    - some jobs seem to be much more effective than others on the average
    - most jobs can't easily carry an ineffective team that ignores objectives, keeps dying in 1v5 fights, etc.
    - no placement system so you're really going to get a lot of ineffective teams
    - occasionally a player drops out so you end up on a 4p team, which is hard to win with
    - party comp can help a lot but is largely random and can't be changed in CC
    - RNG strongly influences win streaks and lose streaks which affect "ranking"
    - ran out of things I wanted to spend trophy points on
    - Secure is still a tedious slog vs. the other (more fun imho) frontline modes
    - I miss Rival Wings even though it was only possibly to play on Saturdays on our DC
    - dragoons keep respawning

There's an entire pvp discord of 30k+ people for final fantasy and most of them are disgusted by the changes including myself. It's vile compared to earlier version but not as bad as the first days of it

Time will tell whether the stream of casuals can keep it alive.

Considering they COMPLETELY destroyed frontlines in order to 'rebalance' everything around this mode...damn.

Okay pvp is dead until next expansion.

So... I don't really care about the win-trading cheating stuff, my biggest gripes with the current PvP mode is that the dev team really take their sweet time to make changes and it seems that when they do change stuff is just superficial. WAR still is simpler to play and has more utility than any of the other tanks + a burst phase to compensate their overall lack of damage(AKA low risk high reward gameplay), WHM still is completely obnoxious to play against, an undispellable CC in a gamemode where you can be burst down in seconds was a really dumb choice, RDMs having both damage and utility while some jobs have neither is an extremely weird decision, etc.

The problem with PvP when compared to PvE is that PvP needs to be actively moderated in order to keep the population healthy, the mode is by it's own nature is stressful, you don't have full control of the situation as you depend on your team, metas tend to be very clear, sometimes bugs gives advantages to jobs and if said job isn't disabled it causes a lot of frustration and so on and so forth, if they keep this thing where PvP is only ever updated when a new 6.x patch comes out, it's going to die again unfortunately.

    Guy.

The current PvP mode hasn't existed for even four weeks yet, and it received a balance and bug fix patch at the end of week 2.

In what universe does that qualify as the devs taking their sweet time?

PvP has a lot of issues right now (though most are the fault of players, not SE),
but I'd love to know what game you're playing that makes it look like the devs are taking their sweet time with changes.

I like it but I am constantly reminded of how frustrating FFXIV is on a fundamental level. Like when you get CC'd, and you want to respond with a purify, and a guard to not get deleted, maybe 3:4 odds of that guard registering in time. It just feels bad. Multiple things to weave feel bad. Knockback position updating feels really bad. The game feels unresponsive; in a PvE environment, for the most part it's better designed to keep up with that. In PvP and how fast the battle situation shifts, it can feel really horrible and I hope they can make some fundamental improvements at some point to remedy that.

Considering they allowed WHM to straight up have a bug that turned them into the most obnoxiously hard to kill job in a match for 2 weeks without even disabling it if the bug was hard to fix through hotfixes, this of course being during the time where everyone was hyped and playing it all the time which only served to add to the overall frustration with the gamemode, yes, I do think that qualifies as them taking their sweet time.

Also, while I do believe there's a lot of player issues, I find it hard to believe that cheating and wintrading impact the vast majority of the player base, as opposed to their terrible balance(even after the "balance" patch that didn't really fix any core issues in job design) or RNG based matchmaking that makes ranking up more about getting lucky enough to get more meta jobs on your team than any actual skill, especially since there isn't much of a learning curve to begin with.

the Crystalline Conflict idea is great, the core systems behind it... Not so much.
