Take this idea even further considering this game current combat design.
8 Dps. There you go c:

sad part is you joke but aside from healers having almost no DPS buttons tanks are basically DPS with a guaranteed enmity generator which we could easily go back to the old enmity system and have tanks as DPS just with acccess to more self defensive capabilities and more enmity on hit generators/skills
healers owuld prolly end up more support DPS with some emergency hela skills but mostly focusing on buffs/debuffs
all jobs would have more responsibility some better at party wide mits some better at handling solo damage etc...kinda like how MNK was a really good party wide mitigation melee DPS thanks to the bonus healing recieved he could slap on everyone
sad part is we're heading to that route but with less interesting stuff to keep us playing each role at this point. (not to mention hell even speedrunning dungeons with premades don't even take healers) you may as well just dismiss the trinity tbh if it helps us get a ltitle more life into the game so be it i really wish they wouldn't do it tbh but they aren't exactly helping themselves here

Will never happen ever and the reason for that is cause it would make a whole bunch of mechanics and possible bossdesign impossible for which two tanks would be needed like two adds or well look at every fight in the entire game lol there are countless trials where two tanks are needed, you can't even beat Bismarck without 2 tanks.
So yeah nice idea but i don't think the devs give up half of their designkit for trials etc.
Likely won't change, the Tank, Healer, DPS paradigm is comfortable enough that it just works. Other games *have* tried to move away from it, but generally were never really well received. I suggest you take some time and experience some of the more difficult content that makes better use of the three class-types (admittedly, healers are in a pretty boring place right now).
As previously expressed, P3S has both tanks taking auto attacks after a certain point in the fight. The casted tank-buster is on two targets. There are many tank busters that require the tanks either swap, or to use their invuln to survive.

You can do a lot of dungeons with 4 DPS already. I once did Castrum Meridianum and Praetorium each with 8 DPS and we were successful. Ultima was challenging but we found a way to beat it the second time.
What you learn about removing either tanks or healers is that the game becomes a lot more fun. I would want to remove tanks, personally, because then enemies would run all over the place like Rathalos.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."
