    They are catering ultimates to casuals like they did with Elden Ring.

    This patch is the biggest slap in the face in all of ffxiv. Ultimate raids are supposed to be the highest expression of skill in this game. They're the best designed fights in any mmorpg, and they're the one thing this game had on WoW. And what does sqenix do? Put in a checkpoint like I'm playing new super mario bros with my baby cousins. They purposefully delayed this. Multiple times. E8S was supposed to be bis for this ultimate, except it wasn't. They said that they had to delay content because of covid, and they prioritized other things. That's fine. But then E12S came and went, and still no ultimate. Then we were told Endwalker was on the way, and there were bigger fish to fry. If any of you are unaware, here's a handy little chart:

    I find it funny that people are making these kneejerk reactions when we don't even know how long the entire fight post-checkpoint is.

    This post is obvious trolling, but there are some who are genuinely assuming that this ultimate is going to be easier based strictly off of that one factor when it's already known the fight has at least four phases after the checkpoint, which would line up with the other ultimates.

    UCoB is Twintania > Nael > Bahamut > golden Bahamut, UWU is Garuda > Ifrit > Titan > Ultima Weapon, TEA is Living Liquid > BJ + CC > Alexander > Perfect Alexander, and DSR can be assumed to be Thordan > dragoon Nidhogg > Hraesvelgr + Nidhogg > ???.

    Except 20 minute fights with no checkpoints aren't making the fight more complicated and intricate, they're making the fight more tedious. That's it.

    Massive part of what makes Ultimate's difficulty is having to start over and over from the very beginning, it has always been incredibly tedious (which is why Yoshi-P telling healers to go do Ultimate is with all due respect, f**king stupid) and the addition of a checkpoint is going to raise eyebrows.

    Personally I don't have any strong feelings about it. I would totally welcome longer, harder fights, somewhere between Ultimate and Savage, with checkpoints, but I feel like it has the potential to take away from what makes Ultimate, Ultimate.

    There's nothing wrong with them. They're there more for practice than crutch anyway. Hard to practice phase 2 if you have to keep redoing phase 1 every small wipe-inducing mistake.
    Ultimate is not Savage.

    Eh, IMO make it about skill not attrition if you want something difficult. Using duration is pretty much the prime example of 'fake difficulty'. And admittedly somewhat disrespectful of people's time.

    I somewhat agree to be honest I never liked how long it takes to do an Ultimate, but it's undeniable that unless whatever comes after the checkpoint packs a punch as much as the entirety of TEA did, it is effectively lowering the difficulty quite a bit and takes away from what Ultimate is, I just get mixed feelings.

    Ultimates can't be unsync'd which is a unique attribute to them. The challenge and difficulty of the encounters are forever set in stone because of this. As others have mentioned Tedium =/= Difficulty.

    That's not really true, UWU and UCOB have been suffering A LOT from the balance changes done to jobs, DPS checks are easier to meet now than they were in SB (some mechanics raiders straight up have to hold DPS not to push the bosses too much) and raidwides don't hurt as much as they used to.

    "Lets punish players for the content being collateral in the constant changes/balances to jobs that they have no control over."

    Doing too much damage and pushing mechanics are all by-products of job changes. If it's not content in the current level cap then they don't look at it too much. Why kick the content harder than it needs to since it's already being kicked unintentionally?
