I made this post on reddit, and am posting here to try and boost visibility.
With 6.11, we got some balance adjustments to PvP, which I could not be happier about. I feel like FFXIV's PvP is slept on by far too many, and is in fact one of this games gems. And with 6.1, I feel like it's really gotten to shine. So I'm very happy it appears as if the dev team is going to give it even more attention going forward.
That said, there are still a few things I'd like to see changed or adjusted. Though my list of small tweaks could be quite long, I'm keeping this post to just two things, which I think are the most critical for PvP in general:
- Purify needs fixing. Currently, you can self-cleanse some crowd-control (cc) away, but if more cc was incoming before the resilience buff was applied, you could instantly be re-cc'd. Couple this with the realities of Frontlines, and often once the first cc hits, it's too late to save yourself anyways.
- Miracle of Nature needs to be affected by Purify. Un-cleanse-able cc needs to be the domain of Limit Breaks, and Limit Breaks alone. No class should have it as part of their basic kit. Although a lot of people complain about WHM LB because of how quick it's up, the real degeneracy is that WHM can lock people down with tab-targeted cc that ignores Purify.
Regarding the first point, I think the best fix would to simply have Purify apply the Resilience immunity first, then cleanse. Maybe it could do something like a 1-second duration of Resilience plus cleanse on activation, and then if you successfully cleansed a cc effect, you get 4 more seconds of duration on Resilience. This would more closely mirror current functionality. Although, I wouldn't mind players having a "pre-cleanse" use for Purify, as that can lead to some really great tactical gameplay. In which case, maybe 2 seconds of Resilience duration is baseline, and if you cleansed an cc with the activation, then you get 3 more seconds of Resilience duration added on?
Either way, I do feel strongly that, before any major changes are made to the PvP system or to classes, these two issues should be addressed
