That's accurate, it takes some adjusting as you'd have to approach pulls different (at least if you want to be effective).I do not regularly play warrior, but I made fresh alt some time ago with express idea of learning marauder/warrior from ground up. I was looking forward to Overpower (cone!) :'(
I feel like cone/circle is apples/oranges situation. I had been told that cone is not hard at all to use compared to circle, at most it would ask some getting used to + the range of it used to be furher reaching. ...Or so I was told.
My usual tanking pick is PLD.
The main problem with it is that it's hard to go back once you get used to the extra range![]()
I am sad about the aoe change because I enjoyed the thought difference I was able to get which helped me when learning to pull on other tanks. They are all circles but each tank you need to approach differently. Paladins is more floaty and glides behind, Gunbreakers is more of a slice sideways so moving slight to the right or left depending on mob positioning allows for easier gathering, Dank knight centers around you and usually stay stationary, and Warriors was super fun, but now its like a fart cloud and will randomly miss things for no reason even if mobs are next to you. I guess I just need to get use to it like every tank, but I would have liked to have kept it the way it was. They are all different even if they look the same, the feel, and planning when going in to a pull is just gone and the enjoyment in playing warrior did not come from the aoe but it sure as heck was part of it.
Currently when I ran a dungeon with the trusts to see how the new version was....I will deal with it because I enjoy playing tank, but I am not happy about this change. Little Timmy had his other 3 tanks, but he was really having trouble with that problematic cone. It might have even reminded him of the patriarchy or some random buzz word people like to use. Was it a disabilty because he couldn't imagine the cone in his mind who knows. I doubt we will ever get it back because nothing ever reverts unless it ever has, but doubt it.
To be completely honest I was at least hoping for the circle animation from pvp which was like the animation for the beast gauge aoe pre 50 I think. It changes when you get Decimate. At least they could have made me like the animation it just looks like a puff of sadness when overpowered use to look like your fury radiating towards the enemies for massive crits.
Exactly, they were situational, people who can't see that just simply didn't take the time to practice. Cones aren't strictly better than circles, they just had an extremely situation use that
1) came up in basically every dungeon bc they're all designed to be exactly the same, and
2) felt fucking amazing and smooth as hell to pull off
I don't know how hot a take this is, but at this point i don't see why we can't just have different combo openers for AoE. Give us a circle and a cone, separate, that both combo into the 2nd hit, and let us put them on our hotbars if we want to. These are tools we should have access to, to do our jobs effectively. Hell after thinking on this, I'd love to see a donut AoE added to that list; give it the largest area range, trade the point-blank range for a bit of potency to keep it in line in terms of potency/effective range, and let it be your fuck-off "grab the stragglers across the whole room" option.
It might sound crazy but I think this would go a long way to helping tanks understand how their tools work. At the very least maybe more people would be willing to try, AND they won't go and pressure the devs to break a small but very fun part of the game.
