Remove the Mentor crown

Like the title says, I think SE should remove the mentor crown.

This is really a band-aid fix to a bigger problem, which is that the requirements for achieving the mentor status are really easy and have little to do with your experience across a wide array of content.

Nevertheless, I think it would be a positive and simple change. Mentors receive a good amount of harassment in this game, which I don't think is ever warranted. Mentor or not, if someone is being rude or just acting clownish in general, two wrongs don't make a right, and its simple enough to blacklist them and move on.

That being said, I have never experienced any kind of harassment from being a mentor. I simply just don't wear the crown. I enjoyed the exp boost when it was relevant for me, and I get a kick out of reading NN chat; that's pretty much my whole mentor experience.

You don't need a crown beside your name to help new players. Furthermore, the crown has such a bad reputation in this game(even to new players) that they aren't going to ask mentors for help anyways.

And finally, removing the crown would eliminate the portion of mentors who only got the status to have the icon next to their name.

had a labyrinth run with entirely sprouts and one of the tanks kept intentionally pulling the last boss off 1 to the centre and even with bongos we wiped.

when me and the other two mentors tried to explain they just threw insults at us saying "that's how i've always tanked it" and we kept trying to remind them that even if they're not the new one, most of the others are and that gives people the few seconds they need. they insulted and cursed at me, i told them to shut up and stop giving sprouts bad advice and they tried to act as if i was the one instigating this and began this holier than thou "oh i thought you were supposed to be a mentor? smh" nonsense. thankfully the entire alliance was on my side and called them out but, still. goddamn.

One has an icon that say "I might fail the mechanic" and the other has an icrown that say "I will fail the mechanic".

I wear my crown for this exact reason. Then whoever is blaming me doesn't get healed. It's really simple to misclick nowadays. "Oopsie!"

In all seriousness, I do have my mentor crown on, but I don't stay in NN because that's what needs to go - it's a useless channel now. I help people while in duties and explain the fights, mechanics and help with job questions. I get /tells at least once or twice a day about questions or general chat. I made up macros to explain fights in raids and duties so I'm not trying to type it each time. I do my part and I know that most don't help at all, and do the same things that UkcsAlias pointed out above. It's really no different than the real world stuff going on - same mentalities - blame them all for what some bad apples do, but most are there to help. I've rarely seen a 'bad' mentor, but see the helpful ones all the time. Is it the majority of mentors? Probably not, but from my experiences with them, they do help in some fashion. Do we need a crown for that? No, I would still help out if I can. It's nice to be recognized though for doing something above and beyond.

Do we get discouraged? Sure, even explaining things to my spouse won't get it if I explain it - but if I draw it out with visual learning, it's not a problem. Some people (myself included) learn better and faster with visual learning and not text on a screen. Something we can't do here obviously, but we can try to do the best with what we have.

Give into your birth right and wear the burger king crown well whining about the mechanics something or another well harassing and doing nothing but whining the entire run and then go to the forums and claim harassment because you are harassing other players well wearing a burger king crown! The mentor system actually works great... in the JP servers. ... it's unfortunately VERY at odds with the individualistic culture we have on the NA servers (potentially the EU but I do not play there so I couldn't comment).

What we need is to remove the "rewards" for doing it and make it purely voluntary. That way only people who want to help for the love of helping will do so (yes these people exist) and possibly find a less ostentatious symbol to mark those who wish to volunteer. Maybe have it become a "list" you can bring up for the area you're in that just lists participating members instead of giving them a symbol.

Really? I didn't know that the system worked well on JP. This probably says something bad about us on NA, but anyways thanks for sharing. And about removing rewards; unfortunately having an icon next to your name, for some people, is a reward.
