Classic Player's Take on Housing

Hello all, I've been around since 1.0 Alpha and have completely immersed myself in FFXIV whenever I have time. I wanted to share my thoughts on this current situation.

1) Housing is an optional side-game that got a TON of attention because people like to show SWAG. Mog House decor in FFXI was similar and was awesome but EVERYONE got a mog house.

2) Housing has come a HELLUVA long way. As someone that was around for the intial onset, I loved housing from day 1. But hated the purchase system. I actually think the lottery system is more fair than before, but I don't enjoy it?

3) Square has a solution coming soon with "Island Sanctuaries". Not sure if you've all followed that one, but Patch 6.2 expected to add it, they plan to release more information later, however you essentially get a personal instanced island, where you can build a house, harvest crops, do little relaxing stuff. And at the same time have probably the same if not more control with the land around your house to decorate to your hearts desire.
- Because these will be instanced EVERYONE can have one.
- You can invite friends over, so you can have friends visit your sanctuary.
- Not sure if cross server capable or not yet, would be nice?

I think this really solves the longer overarching problem SE has had. Sure they could open a bunch more wards but because of how large the wards are now, they are requiring their own server and resources to handle everything always doing stuff in there.

Instanced can run on demand when you enter it, so thus reducing the server need over time, and also helps allow me and you and anyone else to relax.........

I do want to get a house, but I like the community of housing wards, people can run by and randomly visit your house. I had a house with my old FC on Excalibur, but we decided to move servers, and then I moved again a few months back when I found my biological family AND found out they played on a different server.

Needless to say, houses are great, but this new system will likely resolve the rest of your issues. I was seeing signs of June 2022 expected timeframe. But could be delayed a little so they can ensure the 'kinks' are mostly worked out.

This new lottery system while it has bugs, it could be worse... much worse. Trust me! I was in 1.0!

And by the way, housing is NOT in Island Sanctuary. There is not been given any indication to that and I wish they would actually make a news post to shut this down for good. It would be a great plan to transition to instanced housing, sure. This isn't housing though.

Misinformation? I listened to an interview from last year explaining that you could build in island sanctuary, and minions running free. Unless he was lying I'm not? Check yourself before you wreck yourself. lol

As far as "Bait" posts go. No idea what you're talking about. I was merely stating that this game has seen much worse days back in that era. Housing issues suck, any issues suck, but when you couldn't even ride a chocobo (It wasn't finished being written yet), or jump, or get past level 30... I mean, those were bigger fish to fry..

Hoo boy, I think you had better go back and hash out some details regarding Island Sanctuary before you make yourself look a little more foolish. It != housing. Part of what you said is true regarding 'building' and minions; however, after that you are assuming it's housing. It's not. I think you're the one who might need to check themselves. You already wrecked yourself.

Yes, we all know housing in its current state sucks. But nonetheless, you are spreading misinformation about it being housing, as others have as well. They frankly haven't given us enough information on Island, but they gave us enough to know it's not a housing replacement.

YoshiP told us we will be able to place buildings in Island Sanctuary. That doesn't constitute a housing system.

Minions are not housing.

That is what is referring to Island Sanctuary. He is in fact telling us that Island Sanctuary is something different from housing.

I don't disagree its different. My god man, if it was a COPY AND PASTE of the existing housing system it'd be just as much of an issue. The point is its yours you'd be able to do stuff you want. Its one of the best additions to the game I've seen proposed since ARR for casual players.

The ONLY thing that would make most people happy is to open up 20+ more wards in each residential district.. But as you know, that wouldn't ultimately solve the issue. Instanced housing won't scratch most players itch, and I agree neither will island sanctuary, but it gives players a place to do what they want. It will probably be akin to how an apartment doesn't make most people happy, but it provides a place to store your junk.

I always thought and felt the charm of housing is random people visiting. Seeing the work you put into it. I'm unlikely to be able to get a house on my current server, and its unfortunate, but I have an apartment and once again that gives me a place to store my stuff and do some basic decorating.

We're clearly not going to come to an agreement. I look forward to the release so we can finally see what the final vision/product is.

Copy/paste whatever helps you sleep at night, and yes include that bold type line. If you would have paid any detailed attention to the live letter when it was announced they mentioned this. It wouldn't be anything more than basically a shack you could put things in to decorate it and is nowhere near housing.

But, if it scratches the itch for players to think they can identify having a 'house' in a place where one won't be, who are we to judge.
