Because Heavensward had one or two really good moments as opposed to Stormblood's zero.
Its honestly personal preference. In HW u have a lot of moments where it showed that your character has emotion and feeling.
That was not as present in SB when I played through it n thats why I like HW story more than SB.
brother, you are completely insaneThey tried to make Stormblood harder and it back fired and they made the game easier. Getting through Stormblood can be a struggle due to the upped difficulty. Thankfully due to this expansion upsetting the core consumer of this game they removed the Hardcore Minority's most favorite system since FFXIV 1.0 was shut down and that was the Cross Class System
Leaving aside Raubahn Extreme, as that's not related to the story in any way.....
For me personally, Stormblood felt unbalanced. We spend a level and a half accomplishing almost nothing in Gyr Abania, jump over to Othard for about eight levels, and then come back and rush through liberating Ala Mhigo in a level and a half.
Specific issues include:
--Zenos. I've ranted enough about him in other threads that I just don't want to go over it again, so let's just say I'm not a fan.
--Lakshmi has almost zero impact on the plot and felt tacked in just because they had to have a second trial somewhere.
--Lyse's character arc is tied to Ala Mhigo, but since we spend so much time away from it, she feels like she's in a holding pattern for most of the story and then suddenly gets pushed into leadership.
--The Ala Mhigans are, as usual, almost cartoonishly hostile and uncooperative. It's hard to feel any sympathy or desire to help them when 90% of their dialogue is telling us to piss off.
--The Doman villagers are, by and large, exactly the same as the Ala Mhigans, just with Eastern clothes.
--The Empire, as a whole, stops feeling like a threat when we can just roll in and push them aside as long as that one dude isn't around to stop us.
--As much as I love Gosetsu, having him survive felt like it undermined his entire character arc.
--Minor thing, but the closing scene where everyone is singing the Ala Mhigan anthem? The way the characters' mouths aren't even remotely pretending to match the singing cracks me up. If they weren't gonna try, just leaving their mouths closed would've honestly looked less silly.
Not saying Heavensward was without issues. The trips back to Ul'dah to hastily wrap up the whole Monetarist arc felt like they were just there to get us out of Ishgard for a bit so the plot could advance without us underfoot, and the arc itself felt half-finished, like they were just slapping an ending on it to get it out of the way. But overall it was more focused. Beating some character development into Alphinaud also certainly helped.
I actually thought that our getting our backsides handed to us by Zenos was a good narrative move for the exact reasons you feel are negatives. Regardless of Zenos' lack of real character development at that point, I felt it was healthy that the story showed us that the WoL wasn't a "god" and was never supposed to be, and that there was someone stronger and better (at that time at least) capable of showing us that.Sb had some good parts. What it lacked was continuity. HW also had this issue at times with the going back to Ul'dah and everything just out of the blue. That said, it at least tied to things that were left outstanding at the end of ARR. In SB it was just because... they wanted to. The two portions even had different writers and you can feel it, there feels like a complete and utter lack of communication between the two writers. Additionally, as others have stated, character development. HW had amazing character development, and the characters did noticeably grow. Sure Alphinaud can be a snobbish little brat still, but it is a huge far cry from Crystal Braves 'I am king of the world and you shall lick my boots only when I ask' Alphinaud.
Lyse is a boring flat one dimensional character that never grows, says she grows, and then goes about being the exact same. She was hamfisted into being the leadership of the Resistance when by all right M'naago should have taken over after Conrad, and Raubahn should be the primary figure person, and as of late has been, of Ala Mhigo. Lysa would have been better off remaining as Yda. She was better that way.
Then there is Zenos. Ah yes, I love getting beaten 3 times by this unmagical wannabe weeb with a sword and blood fetish who is stronger than us for that long because.... he just is. Yes, some random spoiled rotten psycopathic prince from a race with minimal to no aetheric capabilities is able to take down a God and dragon killing veteran of countless battles. Yes that makes total sense. /s.
Heavensward felt cohesive and and had a clear vision. It also helps that it’s the first real break from the tedium of ARR.
You’ve danced around Ishgard for some length at this point, so getting to see behind the curtain and meet some likable characters is fun.
Stormblood is split between two very different areas, with two main characters that aren’t different enough (Lyse/Hein). To me it felt like the real story was Zenos/Garlemald but you’re stuck running around playing geo politics for areas you know far less than Ishgard. Hein never felt that fleshed out, and I found Lyse got less likable as time went on because she began to feel very one-note.

im baby
Stormblood felt more it was about cleaning house with the Scions. Took out two characters from its roster: one to develop as a rushed faction leader, the other was sacrificed in vain so the former could "thrive".
