    300+ Ping to Materia

    I'm located in Victoria, Australia. When Materia came out I decided to create an alt upon Sephirot to test out the ping, only for my ping to be over 300!



    This is less than my current ping to Primal.



    I ran tracebacks and this is what I recieved



    While I'm happy to continue playing on Excalibur this stresses me out as I can't go and play on an Australian server despite being literally one state south of the server location.

    My internet provider is Vostronet, and when I contacted them about this, they said it was Square's issue.

    I have a ping from 350 to 500 with german internet connection on my PS4 You're not alone, Orpheus.

    You say Vostro is your ISP. No, it's not square, it's Vostro, 100%. They need to work on their routing. The traceroute shows it... Vostro peer to Cogentco, who are sending the packets to the USA, where they move onto the NTT network in Seattle and come back to Sydney. Vostro should pass the packets to NTT directly in Sydney, or contact Cogentco and say "hey, why send this to the USA, send it to NTT in Sydney please, not NTT in Washington state."

    This is what it looks like on ABB


    ABB send it to NTT directly in Sudney and it's there.

    Greetings fellow Eorzean,

    If you are experiencing an issue with high latency, you may be having transmission or connection issues. Please try these general troubleshooting steps to see if they resolve the issue:

    ■ Restart communication equipment
    Power off your communication equipment for 30 minutes to an hour. Unnecessary data accumulated on the equipment will be initialized, possibly allowing for smoother transmission.

    ■ Update firmware of communication equipment
    Update your firmware, the program running your communication equipment. If the firmware is outdated, your communication equipment may not function properly, so please update your firmware before trying the version update again.

    *Consult with the help manual of your hardware when updating firmware. Also, even if your firmware is up to date, rewriting the update may improve the situation.

    ■ Check settings for security programs and firewalls
    There is a possibility that security programs and firewalls are interfering with files related to the game. Please disable these programs before attempting to run FINAL FANTASY XIV. As a last resort, please try uninstalling them for testing purposes.

    ■ Check security services of your Internet provider
    Depending on your Internet provider or service plan, there may be security services included. Please confirm that these security services permit online gaming. If they do not, or if you are unsure, contact your ISP for further details.

    ■ Close any running applications
    Because other applications may interfere with your update, close all other running apps before running the installation file. You can perform a clean boot to ensure no other background programs are interfering with the installation by doing the following:

    - Open the Task Manager and select the 'Start Up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.

    ■ Remove routers
    In order to further diagnose the issue, remove routers and hubs temporarily and connect directly to your modem.

    *This may change your connection to a broadband connection. Please consult with your provider for connection settings.

    ■ Check router settings
    Check the settings of security functions (such as SPI) for your router. Also, please forward the ports used for the game. The ports are listed below.

    *For details, please consult with the manufacturer of your router.

    Your ISP is passing the buck, SE server has no control over the routing of your packets. Your ISP is the one doing it. Give them this tract route and have them fix it, otherwise use a re-router like Battleping and your going to get LAN pings to the OCE data center.

    That sucks! But this is a case where you can hopefully vote with your wallet and swap to an ISP who know what they are doing.

    What I'd suggest is jumping on a olde-style Aussie internet forum like whirlpool[dot]net[dot]au and ask what ISP people suggest. I like ABB but they are a tad more expensive. You could also post a message there about this, maybe in the FFXIV thread in the games section. That place is full of network engineers.

    Unfortunately this is a case where the apartment building I live has the network deal, not me, as much as I would love to switch providers... and in fact, as much as I would love to be allowed a wired connection. I would have to move to another building. I sent an email to Cogentco, maybe they can fix this but as it stands it's just really shit.

    Resurrecting an old thread, but I'm in a similar (though not quite as bad) situation, and it does appear to be an issue with NTT's routing, not with my ISP.
