This is when everyone gets their first AOE attack skill

    Hello!
I've now started to try out how tanking feels like. And I was wondering in which lower level dungeons I can assume that everyone (or at least every DPS) has at least one AOE attack skill.

Anyway, that's what I found out by checking https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/jobguide/battle/:

    Tanks:
    Dark Knight (DRK), 6, Unleash
    Gunbreaker (GBR), 10, Demon Slice
    Paladin (GLA/PAL), 6, Total Eclipse
    Warrior (MAR/WAR), 10, Overpower

    DPS:
Black Mage (BLM), 12, Blizzard II
    Dancer (DNC), 15, Windmill
    Red Mage (RDM), 15, Scatter
Bard (ARC/BRD), 18, Quick Nock (cone AOE)
    Machinist (MCH), 18, Spread Shot
    Reaper (RPR), 25, Spinning Scythe
Monk (MNK), 26, Arm of the Destroyer
    Samurai (SAM), 26, Fuga
    Summoner (ACN/SMN), 26, Outburst
    Ninja (NIN), 38, Death Blossom
    Dragoon (DRG), 40, Doom Spike

    Healers:
    Astrologian (AST), 45, Gravity
Sage (SGE), 26, Phlegma ([edited] huge recast time)
    Sage (SGE), 46, Dyskrasia
Scholar (ACN/SCH), 46, Art of War
    White Mage (CNJ/WHM), 45, Holy

If above data are correct, this means:
    • At The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak (lvl 24), only 9 of the 19 jobs have an AOE attack.
    • At Haukke Manor (lvl 28) it's 14 of the 19 jobs.
    • At The Stone Vigil (lvl 41), every tank and DPS has one.
    • The Aurum Vale (lvl 47) is the lowest dungeon where everyone (incl. healers) has at least one AOE attack.
Why I created the list: I'm reluctant to pulling mob packs, when most of the party has no AOE attack to "burn 'em down". Or am I being overcautious?

Phlegma is not worth mentioning; Sage's spammable AoE is Dyskrasia at 46.

The real limiting factor to whether you'll survive full pulls in the 20s through 40s though is gear. If your gear or the healer's gear is out of date they won't be able to keep you alive even while spamming their tier 2 heal because they don't have any oGCDs to make up the deficiency. If you're both geared it won't matter that things live longer because a couple jobs have no choice but to singletarget; you'll still survive, and it'll still be faster than doing half- or third- pulls because you and on average at least one of the DDs will have AoEs.

But you as a tank do still have an AoE, so generally you will still deal more damage even if everyone else is still single targetting.
The question is if the healer and your cooldowns can sustain the pull. Lower level dungeons aren't always so consistent, but generally in any dungeon you can easily manage two packs for about 6-8 mobs at a time. Most later dungeons, and indeed the reworked lower level dungeons, have exactly this between walls anyway, and the lowest level dungeons are tuned so generously that there's never anything to worry about. The danger zone is around level 40-50 dungeons, where there's the odd wall-to-wall that's more than 2 packs and where the damage is scaled to a point where it's potentially threatening, mostly due to gearing issues.
And frankly unless your party is exactly 1 Ninja and 1 Dragoon (or 2 DRG), I wouldn't even worry about the AoE capabilities of your party. I mean if you have a Dancer or Red Mage with their OP AoE output in there you're already in AoE credit, even if their partner is a Dragoon.

    Yes.

    Pull W2W at every level.

Warriors are forged in fire. It is the privilege of lesser tanks to light the flame.-

The fact that tanks can use AoE at such an early level makes pulling multiple packs still worth it. Healers should have no issues keeping you alive due to how little damage enemies do in early dungeons.

There are 3 dungeon in arr that even with updated gear can be a wipe if the tank pools too much. Stone vigil, dzaemel darkhold and aurum vale. These are the only 3 dng where the mob dmg is pretty high and pulling anymore than 6/7 mobs might have to healer pulls his hear.
Also stone vigil hasnt chanced with dmg output after the 6.1 change

Stone doesn’t seem quite as rough anymore since they removed a lot of the mobs. However, there is no way in hell I do wall to wall in there. I’ve died way too many times in there even on relatively small pulls popping all I have. Healers often can’t handle or don’t expect the damage. They also tend not to cleanse debuffs. Plodding along a pack at a time often just seems faster in there.

Over cautious. Damage is pretty low at the levels you're talking about. The only problem dungeons would probably be Quarn, the darkhold, and Aurum vale if they haven't changed those. Quarn due to bees, Darkhold due to the small spaces and the large AoEs that hit like trucks at those levels + knock backs and unnecessary links due to this. Aurum vale due to it's first room pull with DoT's.

The other dungeons below those have been nerfed for sure after this recent patch and have been made more linear to fit the rest of the dungeons in the game. I think the only one that made it through without being touched is cutters cry.
