Hmmm... I think that on the surface what you say appears correct. However, I wonder if there isn't something wrong with matchmaking. I say this because at times you seem to be facing the same few players on the opposing team over and over again. And if they're good that can easily lead to losing steaks. I don't know if anyone else noticed that.
Also, saying that people are in gold because they belong in gold is not actually true. I have more matches and better win/lose ratios than other people I know who are in Diamond, and that's because luck is a very important component.
Whether you have a 48% or a 56% win ratio matters way less than the distribution of your win and losses... And the distribution is pure RNG. For instance, last night I had a very long losing streak that sent me right back from gold 1 to gold 4. It completely demolished my rank. But if that had happened only a couple matches later I would have been on plat 4 and that losing streak would have barely had any impact on my rank. That's pure luck. The same happens with winning streaks. Consider this: Player 1 is really good and had a 70% win rate in his last 10 matches, distributed in the following manner - W-W-L-W-W-L-W-W-L-W. This netted him 4 stars. Now, Player 2 is above average and won 60% of his last 10 games distributed in the following manner: W-W-W-W-W-W-L-L-L-L. This resulted in him advancing 6 stars. So player 1 with a 70% win/loss ratio advanced four stars while player 2 with a 60% win/loss ratio advanced 6 - even though the difference in skill from someone with 70% wins and someone with 60% wins is GIGANTIC, the player with 60% wins is advancing 50% faster.
And this is pure RNG.
