I'm not defending it; as I said in that post, right now it's largely failing. But the things you're suggesting will make it worse.

If you are losing more than you win, you shouldn't be able to rank up (and if you're stuck at any rank under the current system, it's because you're losing substantially more than you win). Any system that allows you to climb while losing can't track player skill, and won't be able to organize fair matches. If you want a bar that always goes up and never goes down, you have PvP Rank and the Malmstone system, but ranking needs to take losses into account to function.

If going down in ranking at losses is bad then what is the solution? Having top 100 consist of most wins? Most played matches? That just asks people to spam matches and rewards people who have most time on their hands and instantly removes everyone who can't play 20 hours a day from the content. Ishgard already had this problem where it basically asked 10 days of free time if you wanted to compete as a gatherer for example.

Not everyone wins/loses the same amount Someone might get higher rating in 1 hour compared to someone who would play 7 hours

It does not make Ranking more rewarding.

It does not make Ranking more enjoyable.

It is a spat in the face, a waste of my time. It invalidates my progress completely. Not gaining a star is already enough punishment for failure.

You sound like the people who thought losing EXP in an oldschool MMO was good game design and and the definition of "hard" when it was just time wasting. If I don't win, I don't rank up. I need to play well to win, in order to progress. That alone is enough. Losing progres for failure (especially when I can do extremely well but the rest of my team is just garbage or intentionally throwing) is just terrible design. Why should I bother putting time aside each day to Rank when I could spend all day only to end with up lower on the Rank than when I started? How the hell do you defend this?

It's trash. It's terrible. It's a waste of time. That's all it is. It is not "babying" to not have Rank decay. It's the bare bloody minimum to not make the game rage-inducing. Punishing players on that level doesn't make the game harder or more rewarding it just makes it frustrating and time-wasting. And we all know the only real reason this entire system exists is to make it take artificially longer to progress so as to pad out players sub time. Pretending otherwise is just being dishonest.

I would be fine if they removed win streaks, I would be fine if they removed pvp exp/marks/any rewards for losing. But taking away my progress for failure? No. Screw that. There is no defense for that. Just stop.
Rank may as well be deleted. It's no longer rank that you're describing. It's a progression system that anyone can do. If that's the way everyone wants to go that's fine. Just take away the entire ranking system and the rewards attached to it if you do. The devs can figure out how to rework rewarding those that's just participating in pvp. I don't see the point of reverting to how things was originally just to hear again how there's no difference between Crystal play and casual play. You already have a few tools to "boost" your way up the ranks without using another player to help (meta jobs, playing on your favorite map)

There's a difference between de-ranking (demoting) and decaying, both of which I'm pretty certain you would hate if it was truly implemented. De-ranking is falling down a rank for too many losses. Decaying is slowly losing rank for inactivity.

We should be grateful that Yoshi is not letting people fall below platinum. If he decided to be truly brutal most of us would be stuck between silver and gold, and the floor for top 100 would probably not be filled with just Crystal players.

Here's a tip for people who want to climb easily. Wait a month. The system is inflationary (it hands out more stars than it takes away) so everyone will climb up the ranks eventually. Once that happens, Gold will be like bronze and Diamond will be like Silver, so it will be easier to win. Enjoy your free Crystal ranks.

For people who want rank to mean something, sorry. It only matters for the first few weeks.

Currently the system serves no one well. It makes casual non-PvP players think they deserve to climb like it's a mount they can farm for, but ultimately just frustrates them because losing is part of the process. For competitive PvP players, it's only legit for a short while at the start of each season (debatably).

I hope the matchmaking doesn't go to shit half way into the season, but that's a possibility too. Matches have seemed reasonably close (with exceptions of course) above Gold, but as more people climb up, it might get more and more variable in the upper ranks.

Very true. I am not a competitive person and I like the rewards pvp gives but avoided Feast because I did not enjoy it and I was very discouraged about the cheating/win trading.

It is super nice to for once, have pvp content that I enjoy, that also gives rewards that I enjoy.

Everyone should keep in mind that they will adjust and nerf/buff jobs over and over so enjoy it now but anticipate changes on the way. If you played pvp in this game before Crystalline Conflict came out, you would be familiar with the returning adjustments to jobs. Check past patch notes for pvp changes and you can see how they are always changing things.

The majority of the rewards system aside from top 100 and ranking is set up to be possible to obtain at a later time for more casual or time sensitive players.

What you are experiencing is salt, Yukiko. It's bent up anger after you lose a number of competitive PvP games consecutively. It happens to all of us. Heck, it happened to me this morning. Unless you have godlike patience akin to Daigo Umehara, you are bound to get salty every now and then. Especially, after tough losses in Ranked play sessions.

I've had my share of salty moments when playing fighting games like Street Fighter, Tekken, and Guilty Gear. Though the reward for playing these types of games is nowhere near FFXIV's current PvP system. Not to mention the losses sting even more because your lost is on your hands and not on a "team". The only thing driving me and other fighting game players to keep playing is the will to get better. Though I shamefully admit that I once broke my closet door after having a eight game losing streak in Tekken 7. Was playing ranked matches too at the time.

Whenever you get salty, take a break from the game. A fifteen minute rest should do the trick. If you want to continue playing FFXIV PvP after your break, play casual since it won't effect your ranking.

Edit: I also recall tearing through the wall in my house after a bad play session in Street Fighter IV. One kick was enough to create a hole the size of a baseball.
