A match shouldn't even begin if a player abandons or gets d/c'ed

I seem to remember Feast (rarely) doing this. If someone left or d/c 'ed before a match began, the system would call a draw or somehow kick players right back out.

Why that got removed I have no idea.

It's not like it would be exploited since the one who leaves has to wait 30 minutes before they can queue again.

No one loses stars, the match doesn't even start. Just a draw and back out you go.

Had a few games where someone would leave before the game began (prob cos his main was in the other group). It just started and we ended up with 4 players and losing within 1min.

Just happened to me (again). One player got disconnected while still in starter area with countdown running. Didn't come back until 1min or so into the match.

It's extremely infuriating when you're trying to climb ranks and might even be on a streak and then you basically loose before the match even started due to being 4v5. Already happend twice to me now. I could understand it if it they left it in casual, but it's just a horrible idea to have this happen in ranked. Not to mention that win trading is already starting to happen on a smaller scale from what I hear. It's an easy thing to try to queue same time and then fake a DC by turning your modem of if you're in your "client's" enemy's team. Please SE, stop this.

It is a difference if the player actively leaves once joined in - before the warm-up timer is over, or already dc'd while loading in. The latter will resolve in an auto-draw before the match starts. Not sure how much has changed to that, but I bet its still the same.

Let's say they stop this and the match would draw if somebody leaves. Imagine those players get a perceived "bad" team, one of them leaves so the others don't get a loss. It is "drawtrading" then, so your friends don't get the minus, while the enemy team doesn't get the win.
How long do you wanna wait until it is applicable? Just at the start or what if he leaves towards the end when the enemy team already was leading? Just another problem.

Just saying, it is more complicated. Other games would make a timeout function if somebody has a dc, but other games have rounds and are not constantly active. If it happens very early, the game is abandoned, counts as draw, but the player who left will still get the loss. If it happens later, then you just have to continue after the timeout, but often there is a help that makes it fair for those that remain.

What they could do in ff14 is give the remaining players an echo buff when somebody leaves. But it is difficult to balance, maybe just 15% for each person who left, fair numbers would be higher (25% for 1 who left), but it could end up being broken.
