    1.x -> ARR
    ARR -> HW

    Does it suck that that's where the trend ended? Well, yeah; obviously.

    WHM, and all ARR jobs except SCH and SMN, were added during the course of 1.x.

    True, WHM wasn't there at the start -- the actual 1.0; at the time, all healers were hybrids, with CNJ being an omni-elementalist with some heals and related utility buffs and THM being an Astral-Umbral, stat-stealing, HP-transferring, MP-nuking, counter-attacking Priest with a more interesting kit in premise than we've seen on any caster since).
    But, once Yoshida joined during 1.x and truncated/narrowed all the classes to better fit in line with franchise jobs, WHM was almost identical to ARR WHM, just clunkier and with faintly less utility.

    I’m not gonna count legacy because WHM functionally didn’t exist in legacy but 2.x->3.x I guess is true on the improvement front

    Still I agree it’s pretty bad as a trend
