I don't get it... people always say "FFXIV is soo popular, many people play it" but after nearly 7 years I notice mediocre activity to sometimes very weak "people online" activity. Especially when I go from one town to the other and notice only a handful of people in them and sometimes none at all... When WoW players came over there was this huge influx with made it feel like a real MMO true to its genre just like I noticed in other MMO's. But now that most of those players have moved away again... the game starts to remind me more of an RPG instead of an MMO due to not seeing a massive amount of players online...
I strongly advice SE fixes this issue ASAP because I have to force myself to log in. I love housing and I love to lead FC's but what I don't love is having such a hard time finding people to recruit or replacing those who quit the game, making it feel like I'll never see my dreams come reality in this game.
Suggested fixes/possibilities:
- Use more powerful servers so you can merge 2 or 3 servers into 1.
- Allow serves to work together where everyone is shown in the same area and you can communicate + team up.. but each server handles the logins, housing, character info separately...
- Add 3 new server types so people can choose based on their anxiety (and lock older ones so no one can still move to them or build new characters on them):
"Calm/small server" (less people allowed on the server compared to "right now") - "Normal/medium server" (same settings as right now) - "Populated/big server" (stronger server that allows more players in total and in each area"
I don't know about y'all but in my eyes.. MMO = Massive Multiplayer Online is defined by a MASSIVE amount of people online. Being satisfied has nothing to do with it... game genre's should never be applied to games it does not apply to. And this is not me saying I dislike the game or SE because I've loved them from the moment they started making games (I'm a long customer xD). This is me saying I think they could do better knowing some companies handle the player issue better...
