Viera ears don't seem placed right

To be clear, this is not a complaint against FFXIV as such, because they're replicating a race design from a previous game, but it's something that mildly bothers me and I'm wondering if other people feel the same.

Viera ears seem oddly disconnected from being ears, if that makes sense. They seem too high up, or too forward on the head, or something. Maybe because they end up out of shot in a close-up of the character's face? Or they're just generally too far away from where ears should be.

It's a disconnect I've never felt with Miqo'te – on the contrary I've thought in the past that despite being positioned differently to human ears they still seem a natural part of the character's body.

It's not something I expect to be changed, but I just wanted to say it.

The Ivalice Viera ears seem better designed than their FFXIV counterparts. Or at least from what I can tell from this CGI image of Ivalice Viera, anyway.



The ears don't sprout out from the top of the head compared to the way the FFXIV Viera ears seem to do and come out more from the sides of the head, making the ears look more natural on the Viera's head.

They also lack the floof around their ears, too. So their hair doesn't look strangely unkempt just around their ears for some reason.

If I had to make a suggestion to the Devs, it would be to redesign the Viera ears to be positioned like their Ivalice counterparts so hairstyle additions for the race would be far easier to do and look less awkward with certain hairstyles.

Yeah Viera ears definitely are way too high up and too far forward compared to where they reasonably would be, which is... roughly equivalent to where Miqo'te ears are! I don't expect that'll ever get fixed though, given the devs are clearly struggling...

The female Viera ears seem fine to me, the male Viera ears look like they're a bit too far back though.

Every race with animal ears/horns except hrothgar's ears aren't actually attached to the head, they float a bit above it. That is probably why. The more you know.

What can I say, it's a thin line, especially combined with a(n almost) regular human face.

On the other hand if they were donkey ears it could hint at Viera being distantly related to Miqo'te, who themselves have horse ears (for some goddamn reason)
