    There are so many issues with the retail launcher today. Try maybe using xivmac.com instead.

    Does this launcher work with the free trial version of the game? Also, are users allowed to use a third party program to launch the game?

    Only worry is how old your Mac is. 2013 MB is ancient and XIV on Mac (3rd party launcher) doesn't support Macs before 2016, or Intel Iris GPUs for that matter. You may be out of luck. You would be better off upgrading to a compatible Mac. Here is what we support currently: https://www.xivmac.com/compatibility-database
