    They could at least make you port to your hometown, but I guess thats to much effort for them.

    You could at least have some patience or log in using the visit another world feature right now instead of making their maintenance take longer by trying to figure who logged out in residential areas and moving them over. But I guess thats too much effort for you.

    I was able to log in (was parked in front of fc house), port to limsa and then port back to my personal so I think maint is over

    If you logged off in the housing ward, I believe you can right click your character on the login screen and from there transport to another world. That will spawn you at a city aetheryte.
