Any that
A - Actually works and we dont see a repeat of the "winning number 0" garbage and the drama it causes on these forums
B - You actually have a reasonable chance of getting a home with playing legitimately and not having to compete with bots who can sit there all day every day clicking every second
C - Isnt full of people who bot to get the houses and then sell them for cash since that just encourages more botters to try their luck at everyone elses expense
Instanced housing would probably work but since its been requested for quite some time and completely fallen on deaf ears its unlikely to ever happen. Come to think of it it would be a massive seller wouldnt it? Stick it on the mogshop with 3 different price tiers for a small, medium and large housing plot on a little island. If you want a house the option is there and its likely there would be quite a few buyers. Everybody wins, if you want a house you can get it for real cash for the island instanced ones or gil if you want to gamble on the housing disctrict ones and the devs will see a pretty decent increase in income from people buying them.
Terncliff.Crystarium or Amarout
New housing areas? ATM the highest I feel should be on the list is Smileton as long as the layout is as nonsensical as the Duty while keeping the current wards format for existing housing areas and actually having the plots mounted on the landscape on every 3 dimensional facing.
Ideas for "Instanced Housing" locations
Sea of Clouds: Sell off private floating islands
Ruby Sea: Because I'm sure there are people that want to live in a pineapple under the sea.
Mor Dhona: This wouldn't be a land space but actually a commissioned personal airship done via the Ironworks workshop. The thoughts I had on how to do it via this means proposed a sizable gil sink as well as the base commission would be for a small airship and the player would pay for upgrades to make the living space bigger or potentially add features that could be used from this mobile home. I only listed Mor Dhona as the location since that would be where players would go to acquire and upgrade it.

Terncliff.
I'm the smartass who jokingly wisecracks "<X> housing when?" about various locations all the time, but with Terncliff I actually mean it. The almost Mediterranean feel, the view out over the water... it makes me think of Santorini, or Rethymno on Crete.
I would relocate there in a heartbeat if there was housing in Terncliff.
I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.Originally Posted by Packetdancer

Sometimes I really wonder what's wrong with the playerbase and our love of shooting ourselves in the foot...
The last thing I want is another Housing Ward. Another Housing Ward means no chance of instanced housing for at least another 2 expansions. The idea of "just keep adding houses until there's enough for everyone" is naive. There's a limit to server space, Wards are very demanding on that. It costs more resources, more budget, more dev time the more they add and they'd really need a ridiculous amount of Wards to ensure everyone can obtain a house without issue.
Unpopular opinion but:
-The Ishgard housing Ward should never have been made, they should have taken the chance to go with instanced housing instead of committing further to an unsustainable system.
-Wards should have been left FC only from the start, with instanced housing for individual players.
-They should have committed to 1 job per expansion, we have 20 now and many more to come over the years, it's a balancing nightmare and jobs have been more and more watered down as a result.
-Releasing both Viera and Hrothgar in one expansion was a mistake. They should have released one polished race per expansion or two.

I'm gonna disagree with you. If we doubled the amount of plots in each ward, we would near player capacity on each world. I'm serious.Sometimes I really wonder what's wrong with the playerbase and our love of shooting ourselves in the foot...

If we took that number and made it 100 instead of 50 wards, we would possibly be beyond most servers capacity. It would be over 20,000 houses. That's a lot of houses!
We actually COULD take the system, and make it better. We could add more wards and keep it going. The system doesn't work because it isn't instanced, it doesn't work because it isn't enough. I used to play this game in the 2000s called Gaiaonline, where everyone had a house if they wanted it. Each ward would generate a random instance when more housing was needed. Of course this was just a flash game, so it wasn't as hard as doing it in an mmo, but it worked. Majority of houses eventually stood empty as people moved on, but it honestly worked. If we work hard to make sure all plots are relevant, have the proper amount, and are actually used, wards will not be a waste of time.
I understand the desire for instanced houses, but don't knock the old system just yet. It might be our best chance at improvement, because its what the developers are willing to provide. I also have a feeling that housing might not be instanced, because it would put a lot of stress on the servers that are already constrained. It might also be why we still only have 25 wards per housing ward rather than 50, or even 100. They might have the plans to do so, but wont announce it because of backlash, and the inability to do it any time soon. Remember our new datacenters are world servers are still a long time out. Endwalkers launch issues did not go away. The game is being pushed to its limits, so housing might not work 100% as quickly in the way that we want it. In fact, I have doubts we will get housing in the island sanctuary because of the fact that instances still get clogged at peaked times. Sometimes I can't even go inside my house because instances are full.

I'd love a cabin in a snowy woods.
